No need to put them on the offensive by threatening legal action at this point. You could always do that later if the discussion deteriorates.

He's got to be trolling, no?

Who has a last name longer than 26 characters. You'd think you would forgo keeping your last name or taking your husband's last name in that scenario

I read that whole thread. No way he's trolling.

And that diagram for how they modified the submarine...

All maps and diagrams were removed for the Ten Lost edition.

He also made a bunch of random and arbitrary changes between the editions which kinda annoyed me. Why change the Iranian guy's name, for example? That's just confusing.

The words you use and the way you say it is what people have to go on and how you come across, how knowledgeable you are is often judged by what you put out there. Be sure to carefully read what you write before posting, run it through a spell checker if you have to. But do keep in mind that a spell checker along won't catch the wrong words, because the word is spelled correctly but used improperly. Some programs such as Microsoft Word have grammar checkers built in rather than just a word by word spell check.

Oh the irony.

(Emphasis mine)

The book is only half as interesting as the author himself. He is both a Dayan and a State Judge, and a fascinating author of novels and seforim in his spare time.

Interesting, didn't know that.

I did find his slavery book (the name escapes me now) quite thought provoking.

I remember going in to my local Jewish Library as a kid and asking for Aleph Shin (this was way before Ten Lost took it into Crazy Level 1000) and being told that the book was deemed inappropriate for the library. I can't say I don't agree, now that I've read it.

Now you have my curiosity piqued. Two of my favorite DDFers are saying that this book is beyond bizarre. What does it say?

Let's just say that if you think Chabad has weird ideas about Moshiach, you ain't seen nothing yet ;D

<ducks and runs>

I read it many years ago and it still stands out in my mind as a shining paradigm of Jewish novels

It definitely bucks the trend, both in style and content. That being said, it is a very poorly-written book IMO. Absolutely zero character development, bizarre premises, and requires more suspension of belief than the 7 Harry Potter books put together.

that would be great! Are you in jerusalem?

I'm in Monsey, undercover (Mossad Aleph-Shin 68).

really bizarre book

Indeed, even more so post-9/11.

It hasn't been ruined by multiple coffee spit takes? You obviously haven't read it.

I did read it (to my great chagrin), but I don't drink coffee, so no :P.

I am looking for the book "Aleph Shin"/"Ten Lost" by Sender Zeev.
All the classic bookstores say its out of print. anyone know where I can buy it, or has it and wants to sell it?

I could lend you mine for a while if you want.

These blasted investigators, how dare they invastigate! It's an outrage I tell you!

This will be a different kind of trip than we've taken before. We have planned absolutely nothing. If we happen to do it great if not no big deal. I'll be happy hanging at the house walking down to the beach and driving around the island and checking things out. We are traveling with our five and seven-year-old children. They are actually looking forward to a more relaxed Hawaiian vacation than what we usually do.

Serious question - if you're not planning on doing anything, can't you find a similar house to this, way closer and way cheaper? Why schlep all the way to Hawaii for that?
