« on: February 14, 2018, 04:08:15 PM »
Maybe i've been living in a cave, but I drove down a main street here to see dozens of corner vendors with uhaul trucks selling flowers, huge teddy bear baskets looking like shalach manos etc.. its like israel before sukos with the whole world selling shtik.

What is the valentines day craze ? im pretty integrated in society but goodness this is nuts, every supermarket is flooded

Just Shmooze / Dating in the jewish world while disabled
« on: February 12, 2018, 08:33:01 PM »
This article hit close to home

This is not an attempt by me to bash the jewish world. I am pointing out the reality.

Now, to me. Nearly every offer to date I ever got was either laughable with no connection or, they were disabled in some form of way and so am I.

Its very possible this is yet one reason I detest the insular closed mindset of the jewish community. Maybe all anyone focuses on is their idea of compatibility ?  I also think like we focus on chesed as paramount, we often just see disabled people as a chesed case ?

I dont think it bothers me any more. I am 32, i'm at the peak of my life in health. I am having an amazing time, traveling (Alaska, Hawaii, Israel, Barcelona, DC, norcal and socal among others in the next 8 months)

Just Shmooze / More concerned with the way others dress than hechsher?
« on: February 01, 2018, 02:04:56 PM »
My feelings about orthodoxy are amusing.. judging from the thread, many frumme dont care so much about hechsher, others seem more concerned with the dress of others.. yet so many who care about the small nuances of halachot, unfounded chumrot and plain out mishugat CANT SEEM TO SHUT THE F*** UP during prayers etc.

Hmmm I just think its stupid, idiotic ads announcing they are non gebrokhts and in meantime we find out the food is chametz etc.

The concept of malbush is very arcane, the Hebrews / Israelites survived in the Diaspora around churban  bayis rishon because of shabbat, milah, kashrut.

I wear a kipah, its about as much malbush as i'll ever need.. though I have to listen to crap from every one regarding how chasidic / orthodox jews did this or that or they saw them in a strip club etc

Here's a good piece if you can open your mindset

Throughout the Middle Ages, Jewish authorities reinforced the practice of covering women’s hair, based on the obligation derived from the Sotah story. Maimonides does not include hair covering in his list of the 613 commandments, but he does rule that leaving the house without a chador, the communal standard of modesty in Arabic countries, is grounds for divorce (Laws of Marriage 24:12). The Shulchan Aruch records that both married and unmarried women should cover their hair in public (Even Haezer 21:2), yet the Ashkenazic rulings emphasize that this obligation relates only to married women. The Zohar further entrenches the tradition by describing the mystical importance of women making sure that not a single hair is exposed.

Just Shmooze / Opiod addictions
« on: October 27, 2017, 01:57:46 PM »
How bad is it really ? when I have surgery I never touch that stuff.. I remember 10 years ago taking a heroin based pill after surgery, it was warm and a out of body floating experience, I was 22 but knew enough about drugs to never touch opiods again.

plus I dont get it, getting high off a pill is lame, its like if you needed to gain weight, would you eat pills or burgers ? I'll stick to wine.

But, apparently this is a huge issue?

On The Road / fender bender rental car no insurance
« on: September 24, 2017, 01:49:57 PM »
Hey, I posted about this before but this is really melting down.

I slightly banged a terminex truck on the freeway in visible damage, slight scrape. The guy took my info and declined to call the police, he was a douche and wouldn't shake my hand after, I took pics of the truck.

I got a 700$ bill from rental car company for my cars damage, amex paid, used my platinum business.

Then I got a 3k bill from their processor, claiming they needed to replace the decal, the whole bumper blah blah blah.

Any way I denied the validity of the claim and as per ddf advice I told them to contact the rental car company that their car must be insured. Someone then representing the car rental companies contacted me about the claim asking what happened etc I told him.

Now I got a collection letter from a Florida collection agency demanding I pay up or they will have my drivers license revoked?!?  What the..

What do I do?

Just Shmooze / are parents enslaved to yeshiva?
« on: September 16, 2017, 09:29:15 PM »
Not sure if this is Miami only but so many people I talk to work at the local chabad school and often it boils down to getting a discount for their kids... So in short it's like this flow chart :

School charges a ton - pays crap - parents that work there get discount for kids while being paid crap - school claims that they need to charge a ton and pay crap because low cash flow - conviently ignoring the teacher patent discounts.

So, parents are slaves to the institution, quality teacher without Kids there would work there given the terrible wages, the school has cash flow issues due to this and it pretty much helps foster nepotism and coddles friends.

Reason #250 id never send my kids to a traditional yeshiva operating like this

Trip Reports / Heaven and hell in Curacao
« on: August 21, 2017, 03:40:51 PM »
First off,
Rented a house from a jewish guy on VRBO, ended up doing rental off VRBO. $120 a night for 4 people, got charged extra for the 2 "extra" people came out as 25 extra per night. Next we paid electricity and water, $100 cleaning fee.

We left house cleaner than most hotel rooms, says there is grease in mirror, tp on floor (!!!!!!) ashes on outdoor porch from bbq grill, wants to charge us for cleaning.

WHAT THE HECK!! What does the 100$ cleaning fee cover ?

Paid cash and have no recourse with VRBO. Never again !

I'm curious to know what other think might have happened if;

The north had put up a better fight with the roman's
There was no infighting between factions
The 3rd wall was completed
The food stores were not burnt
Ill fated campaigns like that of ashkelon had been averted and the fighting force larger and stronger

Would titus have been defeated ? would rome have given up?

Would the Beit Hamikdash remained standing?

Would judaism have evolved ?
