Up In The Air / Air Europa
« on: May 13, 2018, 03:35:59 PM »
I am so effing pissed. Flying May 27 MIA - BCN, BCN - TLV later that week. Was planning to return TLV - MIA june 6. Air europa had a great flight with stopover in MAD at $400. I realized I had a 75 euro voucher, I tried for like 2 weeks to reach someone and they say oh voucher expired WTF the email they sent with voucher has no wording that iot must be used by a certain date.

They said email us at ... I did, no reply. So I figured what the heck I better just book right ? flights are all 1k+ from them, next best option is Tap at 600 and 13h stopover vs 19h on air europa (was going to use a few hours to explore madrid and stay in hotel.

Any ways, i'm screwed right ? The airline will no honor the older price even though they BS'ed me ?

Just Shmooze / Dr Jordan Peterson
« on: May 09, 2018, 06:39:45 PM »
A friend has been hounding the heck out of me to read the book. So I finally got it, it's incredible. Wondering if any one else has read / listened to Dr Peterson.

Interesting notes, Rabbi Sacks quotes him, but essentially the Lubavitcher Rebbe laid out some of this, specifically how advanced civilization like nazi germany, Buchenwald which was near Weimark, city of Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Wieland and Bertuch and considered the cradle of civilization.

I like the discussion of balancing vice and virtues, which is healthy IMHO. Like it feels good to eat junk food even when you're on a healthy diet because it puts your values in prospective and lets you run amok.

Hola,
So, Maui will wait, just too dizzy looking at the flight plan. Plan B is:

Miami - BCN -greece -Israel.

Return.. any ideas ?

I see BCN to greece is like 75$ and greece to israel like 50$

I want to spend a few days in Barcelona at the wineries
Greece I have no idea, open to ideas and suggestions, maybe 2-3 days, I like sea port towns, older cities etc the country.

Israel about 10 days

On return or way there, I want to visit Seville for a day and Lisbon Portugal for a day.

Can you be of help? Happy to have any of youse join in Barcelona for visits to Elvi, Clos Mesorah, Capcanes and in israel to a dozen wineries and slaughtering a lamb

Bonus points! Who wants to visit the Admor of Malta ?!?

Chaggai was one of the last prophets; he was on the Beis Din of Ezra and was a member of the anshei kenesses hagdolah. Thus, he prophesied during a period after the destruction of the first Beis Hamikdash, when the people were in Bavel. He was a student of either Yechezkel or Baruch ben Neriah, and was a prophet in the days of Daryavesh, king of Persia.

ok, but...

According to the Rambam, Chaggai lived until the destruction of the second Beis Hamikdash.

He would have been 500+

Just Shmooze / Dating in the jewish world while disabled

This article hit close to home

http://www.kolhabirah.com/index.php/topics-of-interest/dating/1162-the-heartbreak-of-dating-with-a-disability-in-the-jewish-world

This is not an attempt by me to bash the jewish world. I am pointing out the reality.

Now, to me. Nearly every offer to date I ever got was either laughable with no connection or, they were disabled in some form of way and so am I.

Its very possible this is yet one reason I detest the insular closed mindset of the jewish community. Maybe all anyone focuses on is their idea of compatibility ?  I also think like we focus on chesed as paramount, we often just see disabled people as a chesed case ?

I dont think it bothers me any more. I am 32, i'm at the peak of my life in health. I am having an amazing time, traveling (Alaska, Hawaii, Israel, Barcelona, DC, norcal and socal among others in the next 8 months)

Just Shmooze / More concerned with the way others dress than hechsher?
« on: February 01, 2018, 02:04:56 PM »
My feelings about orthodoxy are amusing.. judging from the thread, many frumme dont care so much about hechsher, others seem more concerned with the dress of others.. yet so many who care about the small nuances of halachot, unfounded chumrot and plain out mishugat CANT SEEM TO SHUT THE F*** UP during prayers etc.

Hmmm I just think its stupid, idiotic ads announcing they are non gebrokhts and in meantime we find out the food is chametz etc.

The concept of malbush is very arcane, the Hebrews / Israelites survived in the Diaspora around churban  bayis rishon because of shabbat, milah, kashrut.

I wear a kipah, its about as much malbush as i'll ever need.. though I have to listen to crap from every one regarding how chasidic / orthodox jews did this or that or they saw them in a strip club etc

Here's a good piece if you can open your mindset https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/hair-coverings-for-married-women/

Quote
Throughout the Middle Ages, Jewish authorities reinforced the practice of covering women’s hair, based on the obligation derived from the Sotah story. Maimonides does not include hair covering in his list of the 613 commandments, but he does rule that leaving the house without a chador, the communal standard of modesty in Arabic countries, is grounds for divorce (Laws of Marriage 24:12). The Shulchan Aruch records that both married and unmarried women should cover their hair in public (Even Haezer 21:2), yet the Ashkenazic rulings emphasize that this obligation relates only to married women. The Zohar further entrenches the tradition by describing the mystical importance of women making sure that not a single hair is exposed.
