Planning

My wife and I have been looking forward to going away for a few days for our 10 year anniversary. We needed a place where we could a) relax, b) have enough activities so we wouldn't get bored and c) not have zika. Unfortunately, that last criteria knocked out a lot of close options. Hawaii was always somewhere that I was really interested in but I knew that we would need to spend more time there than just a few days. (I'm not flying 10+ hours to go to one island for 4 days). I calculated that we would need a minimum of 8 days with 10 being ideal. After working out my both my work schedule and babysitting (huge shout out to my mother in law), we were able to get away for 10 days! Hawaii here we come!

Well now which of the islands would we go to? We would really only have time for 2. Besides for Pearl Harbor, Ohau didn't really seem to have anything else to offer. So that quickly whittled it down to 3 islands. After reading up online, it seemed like the big island had the most adventures/activities. If we would want to include relaxing we wouldn't be able to do everything the big island has to offer in the time period we were there. So we settled on Maui and Kauai. We weighed the pros and cons for a while on which island we should go to first and which island we should stay for shabbos. We ultimately decided on going to Maui and then Kauai. Reason being is that we a) would be getting a suite at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai (thanks @bades) which we wanted/needed for shabbos and b) because of the Grand Hyatt new kosher food restrictions we had to stay at Kauai last. After discussing with my wife, she said it would be blasphemous to go all the way to Hawaii and not see Pearl Harbor. I realized that instead of having a short stop over in HNL while flying from Kauai to NYC, I'll just expand the stop over so I'll have enough time to visit the USS Arizona memorial.

For food we ordered meals from pomegranate and bought a toaster oven for $18 in the Walmart in Maui. We were able to stuff in two meals in to it, but as there was no airflow in between the meals, we had to switch it out half way so it still took about 40 minutes to warm up the meals.

I don't remember what nights we ate what so I will just list what we liked and disliked overall.

Great: Schwarma chicken, Sesame chicken, Szechuan beef, Eggplant parm, Mushroom rice, Popcorn cauliflower, Israeli couscous, Portabella mushrooms
Very good: Brisket in gravy, Stuffed cabbage, Spare ribs, Penne Ala vodka, Eggplant rollatini, Cheese blitzes, Mashed potatoes, Garlic broccoli
Ok: Corned beef (very dry), Hot poppers (no sauce)
Bad: General tzo chicken (had a weird taste to it)

We also brought a sandwich maker, bread, cheese and a few dried Salami as well.

For a car, I rented through Costco and got a convertible for Maui. I was supposed to get an Altima in Kauai but got upgraded to a convertible as well.

Tech Talk / iphone5 vs Samsung S3. Which one should I get?
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:29:15 PM »
I searched and while I saw topics for the iphone 5 and the Galaxy S3 I didn't see a topic weighing out the Pros and Cons to both.

I am up for an upgrade from my blackberry (which I hate). I have At&t but unfortunately not an unlimited plan.

I am looking into either the iphone5 or the Galaxy S3.

One of the main things I need to use the phone for is to edit word documents (and use the "save as" feature) and then save into the cloud (either google drive, dropbox or box)

I have an ipad but I barely use it (my wife uses it). But I am more familiar with the apple layout.

I never had a touchscreen keypad and I am a drop nervous about it. I do write a lot of emails and texts. That's why people say the S3 might be better because its bigger (too big?) and has swype. However I do know that iphone5 is decent sized as well.

Anyone could help me out with some more Pros/Cons for either phone?

General Discussion / Mortgage/Car credit question
« on: July 13, 2012, 02:14:42 PM »
So I hope to close on a house in mid August. I am already approved for a mortgage and my credit score is 762. My wife has even better credit score (above 800, she was an AU on her parents CC for years). As of now only my name is on the mortgage as we could qualify with only my income. (B"H). My mortgage broker said that there is a benefit to only have my name on the mortgage as if I go bankrupt (C"V) my wifes credit score will be clear.
I am now looking in to leasing the infiniti G37x. I have one month left to my Honda Accord lease. It would be benifital to have the car in my name as a) I could transfer my old plates saving ~$150 and b) I could write it off as a business expense.

My mortgage broker told me that before I close, the bank does a credit refresher (soft pull?) just to make sure that nothing changed since when they first ran your credit. If my credit score dips below 740 I will not get the best mortgage rate.

So my questions are this.

1)If I put the infiniti in my name will the car loan banks hard inquiry dip my credit score 23 points below 740?

2) Even if the hard pull doesn't dip my credit score, will the extra debt now that I have taken on a new lease dip my score below 740? (On my credit score it has that my honda only has 1 month left so not much debt)

3) If I do put it in my wifes name and take the ~$150 loss for the plate transfer will I still be able to write it off as a tax expense? (I will be the one driving it for business and while we have a second car it is in my name and  its significantly cheaper so I would rather expense the more expensive car)

4) Is there any truth to what my mortgage broker said about only my name being on the mortgage (in case I go bankrupt my wife's credit score will still be ok)? Are there any cons that anyone could think of with just putting my name on the mortgage? Any other pros?

TIA

Tech Talk / Which cloud service should I use?
« on: April 30, 2012, 04:30:30 PM »
I need a cloud service to be able to start new word documents as well as edit older documents from my blackberry. Does anyone know of a cloud service that would do this for free?

I already have 50 GB of free storage from box.com. However, I think that the app for editing and adding new word documents for blackberry cost money.

Dropbox has 2GB free but I donít think you could edit from a blackberry

I donít think Skydrive and google drive are not compatible with blackberry

Any other ideas?
