Considering doing the TLV-HKG-USA route, how long should I aim for in HKG?

I have up to two weeks so I'd potentially consider doing a short hop elsewhere in middle.
2 days should be enough but make sure one of the days is a Sunday

Looking for mid week destination, week after Purim (March 4), warm, near beaches, kosher food options (basic, not fancy), clean comfortable decent hotel (around $100 per night), within 5 hours flying time from EWR. I know I just (kind of) described MIA, but looking for alternative. Thanks.

After all this mishegas, they didn't even have any standard suites available for the days I wanted at the GH Kauai so as of now its just a regular room booking. I thought the ocean suites, which are available would have sufficed for this booking but nope. From all of you traveling experts experienced in booking these things, do hotels generally have standard suites become available within 2 months of booking? Should I even try pestering customer service to extend try extending the DSU to a different suite, or is that completely futile?
Just keep checking, and check one day at a time. If you can get it applied to one of the days, chances are they will let him keep the same room for the entire stay

Still available
maybe because you are selling it for too cheap

Last thing, I promise...I am booking with Points plus Cash option as it is an eligible rate and subject to the same benefits as full points, would this have any impact on this situation at time of checkout and they tack on resort fees like they sometimes do for P+C bookings before I put up a fuss. Basically I am asking, if they start with shenanigans at checkout does he have standing to be acting like a globalist to get those fees waived since he is not me?
what I tell people is to just pay it at checkout and then you can call after and act as if you stayed there and get it removed. But you are better off with all points as he would get free parking

Also the issues with removing resort fees was early on. By now most hotels know to remove them automatically

Thanks fellas. So, basically he should not go to the front desk with his wife, he should check in by himself and say that I will be joining a little later and everything should be fine and dandy?
no need for him to bring up that you are coming later. If they ask he should be prepared to say that (he can say your flight was delayed) but they usually will not ask.

Thanks, were you the one actually staying? What did you say by check in?
no my account was used. I added him as a guest and he checked in. They didn't give him issues when he checked in.

Does anyone have experience when booking an award stay for another person and adding them as a guest, does the account holder have to be by check in?
depends on the hotel

I've done it many times without issues. But nothing is 100%.
if you educate him and he knows what he is doing you will be fine. If he goes in thinking the room is his he can get screwed. However I've done it many times at this hotel (and educated the people going) and they had no issues

My brother just got married and is flying to Hawaii for his honeymoon. I told him I would book him his hotel on my points as a wedding gift and he'll get the upgraded suite using one of my suite upgrades. I made the reservation for regular room using my points and then I called up customer service to change the name on reservation to his name. They did that no problem, but they told me that they can't apply the suite upgrade certificate to his name anymore since that can only be applied to my reservations under my name.
name. She double checked to make sure that was the rule and she said that it was.

My question is, I want to guarantee he gets the suite when he shows up, and not up to their discretion to upgrade him. So should I just cancel that reservation now, rebook one, add my certificate to my name for suite upgrade and then call up the hotel to add his name as an additional so that he can check in to the suite when he arrives there?

Any input is appreciated, thank you. This is Hyatt rewards, I have globalist status and the hotel is the GH Kauai.
yes when you switch the reservation to your brothers name you cannot apply the DSU.

Switch the reservation back to your name, apply the DSU and then add him as an additional (make sure to do these in separate calls). When he checks in let him check in by himself. They most likely won't ask him about you but if they do he can say that you are running late. Once he checks in he can now bring his wife in.

The 34th St battle of "how many restaurants can you shove into one location" escalates ...

Paprika, added "Chicken & Kone" ( http://chickenkone.com/ ) which is a waffle cone with crispy chicken and a sauce topping of your choice. I spoke to the manager and they also have "Pitaland" coming which will be a fast food menu at a lower price point like Chicken burgers etc.
So they now have 4 menu's including Toastie.

Kosher in Midtown (aka Eden Wok) across the street has 6;
1)   Eden Wok
2)   Koshe Poke
3)   Pitopia
4)   Sushi Donut
5)   Teryaki Wok
6)   Buffalo2go

Mendy's is 2, including "Bedford on Park".

In other news "Basta", also opened up on that block- 34th between Madison and Park.
I wouldnt call them different restaurants they are all the same owner just different departments.
