Help plan my short Israel/Jerusalem trip Thanksgiving weekend
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:25:39 PM »
Hi guys,

We currently have the flights booked to be in Israel Wed 11/23- Mon 11/28 and would appreciate help with the following;

1) We want to spend the first night up north in Tiveria/surrounding areas, looking for decent hotel suggestions (doesnt need to be luxury but it needs to be decent) and nice place to eat dinner.

2) We plan on staying in J-M from Thursday-Monday, looking for a hotel ideally that we can at least walk one way from the kosel Fri Night, needs to be decent hotel but hopefully not more than $200/nt. (if possible). (walking distance to kiryat belz a plus)

3) What are our options for shabbos meals? are there any restaurants or hotels that have a good hechsher that we can make reservations at? We definitely need for Friday night, maybe Shabbos morning as well.

4) Any restaurants that we "must" eat at during our stay? Looking for nice meat place with good food.

Thanks for any help and tips!

there used to be a holiday inn in tiveria...dont know the deal with it...there are many restaurants on the promenade though nothing to write home about....mostly fast food..you could do kibbutz lavi though the rate is likely high

good luck on finding a hotel in jerusalem in that range

havent heard of any eat in shabbos options but you can always bring in from a takeout place or shabboskodesh.com

papagaio is pretty good...red heiffer...hope this helps!

If you stay in a hotel in Tiveria there is a hotel called Malon Palterin (if it's still there!)  that has Shabbos. The hotel is kind of a dump... but the food is pretty good and it's the only option I know of in Tiveria with TOP Hechsher.   If it's around I'd stay in a different hotel and eat there.

Prima palace is decent, prob in price range, serves meals (extra charge?) mehadrin hechsher (aguda) and walking distance from both places (20-25 min to both)

By far the nicest hotel in Tiveria is the Galei Kinneret (of the Rimonim chain). It's not much though.

In Jerusalem - Modern in the Israel Museum is a new amazing restaurant. Beats Keyara IMHO, and cheaper. Hechsher is now OU mehadirin, but there have been rumors of them removing the kashers soon. (note to fellow def members: let them know the hecsher is important to you)

Thanks for all the tips so far. It seems that the Prima Palace is the best hotel option so far. Has anyone stayed there recently?

What about the food there- has anyone eaten there on Shabbos?

Last summer i stayed in the holiday inn and went to kibbutz lavi for dinners. Lavi food is probably the best hotel food i've had. Don't know the rates as my Father in Law paid for it  ;D (i think the holiday inn was with points).

Thanks MnM1130, we will be in touch. (we are seriously considering this, just working on the details and figuring out if the size will work)

I was wondering if anyone else had any leads on an appt avail for the weekend of 11/24-11/28 that can accomodate 2 couples plus a single? Needs to be walking distance to the Kosel, with appliances (hotplate) etc avail so we can buy Shabbos food and eat in the appt.

Thanks

when I was in yeshiva I ate there friday night with a cousin of ours. The food was pretty good you can ask him how the room was.

The Holiday Inn is now a Rimonim hotel. The rooms are lousy, although breakfast was good. I would stay away...

I don't remember what it was like when i was there. It's funny when i pay (or even use points) for a stay I usually notice all the small things,
but when it's free i couldn't care less.  :D

Nicest in tzefas, but nothing to call home about.

Is that the one in an old castle or something?

Yes, although there's a new section too. I haven't been for 5 years, but IME the old is nicer.

I mean it hasn't yet become popular, although everyone who eats there loves it. I hope it will become popular before they remove the mehadrin hashgacha
