This purim at the sueda i had an unreal lineup!

We started with
a modest bottle of Binyamina Bin (awesome for the price but so fruity it almost tastes sweetish) then
Herzog special reserve napa valley, then moved on to
Segals reserve Fusion then
Isaac's ram, then
Herzog Special Reserve Chalk hill cab and
culminated with Herzog special reserve Mt. Veeder (very limited, i don't think it's made it to stores yet in the tri state)

My all time favorite is clearly Yatir Forest

Cheaper options that are quite good:
Dalton Red Cannan
Segals special reserve cab
Gabrielle Chiante
Hezog old vine zinfandel
Barkan Special reserve cab

good wines that are easy to drink a cup of, quickly (think seder night):
Barkan special Reserve Pinotage
Eagles Landing pinot noir ( if you can your hands on a bottle!  ;))

Chateau Valendraud has to be my fav. Quite pricey though.

I have had this wine which is priced at roughly $400+
while it was good, in fact even great, there is no way it is worth nearly as much as it costs. I can think of 3 bottles which cost around $100 which are equal or even better

I considerate myself an amateur but I recently picked up a bottle for shabbos called "Isaac's Ram" which I thought was delicious. Even my wife who usually prefers late harvest Chenin Blanc to anything even semi dry really loved it.

I recently had another Or Haganuz wine I enjoyed, this one was a rosé, clear bottle and label, blush wine (2010 harvest), mmmm. Bought it in J-lam, so I don't know if it made it to this side of the pond yet.

+1 had it a week ago. its definitely not worth the price, and I doubt it, aging it will do much, coz its not sucha full body.
I did have though last year another vintage which was much better [I think 06] but this one [07] is definitely not. shame

wow. was actually thinking the same exact thing. had a Isaac ram the first time this paisach, its worth every penny!! although I do favor French wines, this was something special. its a real Israeli wine, very fruity.... but it has alot of depth to it. I was actually wondering how come all those 'karpen kap' @ the Israeli wine stores in jlem never recommended it

How does it finish? What does it cost (range)? Are there several types (i.e. is it a brand) or is there just one Issac's Ram?

:D I believe he's referring to the finish/aftershock  of the wine. not how 'quick' you pour it down.
so the finish is unbelievable. for around $30 you gotta try it.
as said its both fruity and deep, medium to full bodied.
its one of the only [Israeli] wines I had that has both, the fruitiness a the elegance, that reminds you of a great Bourdieux [probably thanks to their franc wine maker]

There's only one Isaac's Ram (!) but that winery (Hevron Heights Winery) produces more great wines. Isaac's Ram is great!! I bought 5 bottles for pesach and they went quickly. Other wines I enjoy from the Hevron Heights Winery are the 'Jerusalem Heights' and the 'Pardess'. All are just under 30 dollars. They have more wines but I haven't tasted those, yet!

No, I did not! I actually meant to say that they were gone before I knew it! I was planning to keep two for the Mashiach Se'udah but they where all finished way before that.

Just stumbled upon this thread.
For all those drinking Jeunesse, Moscato, Moscattini, and the like, they might never move on to dry wines, it's not like this is beginner stage and dry is advanced. That's just a different type of wine for different tastes/occasions.
If you want to make you way into dry wines (the real deal IMHO), start with a medium bodied not very oaky, young wine. NON-MEVUSHAL is key-You don't want to begin with distilled vinegar and cause a life trauma. OTOH don't overpay, you don't want to overspend on your young palate, For ~$15 you can get very decent stuff.
Keep the cork moist, in other words, the bottle should only be standing upright when the cork is off.
Cool the wine in the fridge for 15 mins and open bottle 30 mins before drinking.
Try some before eating and then drink some more with different foods. DO NOT MAKE KIDDUSH ON IT!!
Enjoy!
Whatever you do, DON'T JUDGE A WINE BY ITS PRICE TAG!!
If You See Something, Say Something!!
