How often do you have fraudulent activity on your CC?
« on: November 01, 2011, 12:41:14 PM »
Somehow I have had fraudulent charges on 2 different CC's in the past month.

No idea how... I use Virtual CCs when shopping online at small stores and have never lost a card.

Just wondering if it is only me?

I had just had a fraud alert which after answering some questions online they canceled my card and sent me a new one. Thing was, it wasn't technically a fraud. I had given a virtual number then canceled it, to avoid a recurring fee, and when they tried to charge it the alert was triggered. Would this match your scenario?

I once had amex flag a fraudulent charge shortly after using my card to make a phone reservation at a hotel. I assume the hotel clerk herself used the card for some international gambling site, Luckily amex flagged it right away.

Once in the last few months. Someone was trying to fill up his car with Gas in France. Visa caught it right away and sent me out a new card.

Same issuer? You never used the actual cards?

Viewable via the same login online? How secure is that password?

So I'm not the only one :) lol

I had someone buy 4 planes tickets to France on my Citi AA MC and they didn't flag it as fraud nor call me! Then 2 days ago someone spent $432 at a Halloween store in Canada on my Chase SP, again no flag nor call! :(

Citi and Chase. I use them all the time, they are my primary cards... But always virtual card when online when it is not a large chain.

Not viewable via same login and the password is pretty darn secure...

Different banks, eh?

Do you use Yodlee/Mint/another aggregator?

Have you left your wallet lying around?

This is pretty scary.

Sounds like you're frequenting some scammy store or getting your card skimmed somehow.

Yup...

Did use Yodlee and Mint a few months back, but haven't used them since before I got any Chase CCs.

Have you left your wallet lying around?
Never. The only time a CC leaves my site is at a resturant...

This is pretty scary.

It's gotta be that but I really only shop at large stores... scammy stores get VCCs even in store... I'm leaning toward a waiter at a restaurant but idk.

Ya. Maybe you've used both cards at the same restaurant/gas station recently?

It's about time for Chip & Pin on this side of the pond. Besides, it's the 21st century, why can't we pay right at our table at restaurants?

My Citibank Visa just got hit 2 weeks ago. Some store in FL. CC was entered manually (duh). The charge was $7 and change. It hit their fraud alert and they called me. Sent out new cards.

No clue what happened though.

Citi had a big breach recently, other than that I'm not sure. I should take a closer look at my statements before I pay...
