Which network are they on?
Does this include BB service?
Might be profitable here - ho long do you have to keep a plan for the $99 phone?
TIA

They use WIFi as primary (when there is WIFI available) otherwise it uses SPRINT service.

You have to get a phone through them, no BB yet. But they have ANdroid

Seems like a GREAT idea, but they're gonna have a huge problem: this method of calling is gonna kill battery life.

The best way to know how you're doing is by checking out your Cellular Usage Index (CUI). If it's too high, we'll let you know and give you tips to bring it down. You have plenty of time. But meanwhile, you still pay a flat fee of $19/month no matter what.
Everyone’s entitled to a bad day, week or month. Kicking the cell habit, however, isn’t for everyone. Membership here is a privilege. So, over time, if you don’t bring your CUI back into a reasonable range, we’ll help you find a more suitable, traditional cellular carrier.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Because of WiFi usage? I get about 300% better battery life while using WiFi on my HTC Evo 4G...

Ugh.

How much cellular usage is too much?
It depends. Even assuming 0% wifi usage, for example, you could consume 550 minutes, send 150 texts, and download 300 megabytes of data without crossing the community’s fair use threshold. Everyone's usage patterns will be different, but we're confident you’ll be amazed at how little cellular you actually use when you have a phone that makes it easy to leverage the power of your Wi-Fi networks.

Hardly a "drop" IMHO.

Well it all depends on your cell reception.

In my apartment I only get 1-2 bars so when using WiFi for my data I get significant battery improvements as the 3g radio isn't requiring as much power. (An Airave will also help with this)

It will be a fair use policy, probably similar to Sprints current roaming policy. The only reason this could succeed is because Bandwidth.com is behind it. They are so largely integrated in the infrastructure of the internet backbone that they might be able to pull this off.

It also definitely will not be for everyone in the beginning. In my case it could actually work as for 9 hours a day or so I am at the office where I am on WiFi, then at home for at least 8 hours on WiFi as well. That leaves 7 hours where I am not on WiFi but that number is dropping greatly as there are more and more public WiFi hotspots going up these days.

Yea, but even if you're using WiFi for data, you'd have to leave your 3g radio on for voice...

1) What makes you think the phone will automatically route data over WiFi when both are on? and
2) You now have two radios on instead of one, which IME has killed my BB battery.
