Citicard "risk closure"
« on: November 12, 2011, 10:37:51 PM »
Ive had Citi cards for many years, never had an issue before...

I recently applied for the Citi Executive card in order to try and hit LT plat while i can. I asked for a credit line increase and they did so by closing on of my other cards...Everything was fine. I spent quite a bit, and sent a few payments even before the statement closed. I will say that a cousin of mine is using the card as well (has a card in his name-diff last name) and does quite a bit of business spending on it although the spending that is done does not necessarily appear to be business spending.

Tonight, my card was declined. I called Citi and they said i have to call back on Monday and to call 888-258-1166. I googled that number and it seems like its a Citi "FR dept". From reading online, it seems many people have had their cards closed for no reason other than being too high-risk. They are calling it a "risk closure." It seems that once closed by this dept, no one has seen their card reopened. Im hoping they just want to verify some things and this is not whats going on.

I figured id put this out there and see if anyone else has ever experienced anything similar with Citi and what i can expect on Monday...

I've read of people getting hit with Citi AA (Adverse Action).
Not really an F/R dept. if all they do is close your account instead of reviewing and then deciding whether to close.

No experience with them, BH, even with a 6 figure credit line.

BH. What's the biggest CL you have on one Citi card? I have ~$20k on my biggest Citi CL IIRC

I got my main card up to $80K before they stopped letting you combine credit lines and have a few more cards at about $20K each.

Can you provide a little more info?

How long did you have Citi cards?
How often were you cycling?
What was your CL?

I had the cards open for a few years. I would cycle through the full cl (in some cards it allows 3x the cl) every month (pay before statement due...

I had a few cards the dc was a 35k limit the v executive plat was 24k and the plat select was 19k (if I remember the numbers correctly).

I had the same for my parents as well with similar numbers and they shut me and my dad but the interesting thing is they didn't shut my mom's accounts.

I tried calling the executive office and they looked into it for me but didn't help me at the end.

What did they say the reason was? Were you able to reopen?

Who says that 60 days is a cut off. No reason SOL should end there. It's a real violation of federal law.
