like all hydroponics
not all hydroponically grown produce is an atzitz shaino nakuv. I've been to quite a few farms that we're in fact an atzitz nakuv even though they were hydroponically growing. The ramification might be that it gets yenika from the aretz.

Not sure..

.. but עציץ שאינו נקוב to me means soil. Just no hole.

The חיי אדם holds that it is שהכל even when there is soil in the עציץ שאינו נקוב.

This is independent of those who hold that when it is grown in water it is שהכל which can possibly be even if it is grown in water in the ground. Each combination has its own group of opinions.

I was at a hotel that belongs to an international chain in Israel recently.

Upon checkin, they did the usual authorization hold for incidentals, etc.  During check out, they asked me if I'd like to settle the bill with the same card presented at check in, which I did.

A few days have passed and the hold has since disappeared and no real charge has appeared (I received a receipt/folio and signed off on everything).

Is this typical, and if not: what course of action should I take if no charge appears?  Without beating around the bush: is there any acceptable endgame in which I am not charged?

This doesn't sound like a halacha question just yet.

Ok, oddly enough this has literally never happened to me before.  Bill has always been charged prior to stay or at checkout on the spot.

I'm makpid not to eat wise potato chips due to bishul akum. I just came across plantain chips which have an ou and was wondering if it's any better. My logic for it being ok is that it isn't oileh al shulchan melachim like potatoes, and second that it's nehchal chai as the back of the bag says. Makes sense?

In Igros Moshe and Emes LYaakov they write explicitly that it requires bishul yisroel.

Bag says it's also eaten raw so does Wikipedia
Quote
Cooking is also a matter of custom, rather than necessity. Ripe plantains can be eaten raw, since the starches are converted to sugars as they ripen.

I would have a hard time understanding an opinion that it would be oleh al shulchan mlachim like potatoes. If I would be called with the shaylo I would be matir.

I accidentally bit into a plantain thinking it was a banana. Will never do it again.
