BA Free award companion voucher - how to get most value?

Just received my BA free award companion ticket for spending over 30k.

I would like to travel somewhere with the wife, I wondering how to get the best bang for my buck (mile).

Currently I have approx 145000 BA miles, ideally I would want to go NYC - TLV first class using miles for 1 ticket and the other companion, the problem is the fuel and surcharges.. anyone have any ideas on another type of trip that will get me the most value using the companion ticket?

It would be a shame to waste it on a NYC - LAX flight...

The companion ticket can only be used on BA metal (BA planes), so there's always going to be fuel surcharges.
You have to pay for the taxes and fuel surcharges for the companion as well, so you're basically getting award tickets for half the miles.
But 50k + ~$600 ain't bad for a first class ticket to London.

Though you won't find any free (or close to free) tickets  with this.
