Not someone elses sim, but another provider, any operator is okay (even from another country), if you get to the regular screen (not stuck when starting), then you are okay.

When talking about a blackberry phone, you might need to UNlink with blackberry, via your provider.

If they don't want to (you are still on contract or whatever), then go to your operators site, and look for the roaming prices in different countries.

Most operators have partners in roughly 200 countries. Just pick a country which is NOT on the list, and tell them that you are traveling to that place (staying there for 3 month), so you will need to get a local providers blackberry service, or you aren't 'hooked on' any longer...

Actually he's probably right when he said someone else's sim if i understood correctly he meant someone that has a contract with tmobile in the above case so that way they will give him the unlock code

well one way they do it is they buy the program and some cables which is pretty cheap and it figures out the code for u something like that so its an investment like any other

What you are referring to, is called hard unlocking, and very very risky. Just a battery running flat while "flashing" the cell is enough to kill it.

Some phones (some nokias) allow soft unlocking, meaning unlocking with codes that you type into the handset. (also this is limited to some 5 tries).

the investment is not so small, as its not just one cable per brand....

Yes, you could, but this UNlinking issue you only realize later, so it's not something you would be able to do in 1 shot.

You can usually check it out, by going to http://yourprovider.blackberry.com
