Only thing I can think of is that their debt is deeper then that.

Not 100% sure what an endowment is, but if it's like a trust fund, where the principle remains, and the yeshiva is supported off the dividends, the Mir's operating costs are reportedly $2m per month, so at 5% return, the endowment would have to be around $500m

How come their operating costs is so much? They dont have too much magidei shiur that they pay. They get SOME money from government. I know its definitely alot, electricity, food etc but I dont believe $2m.

I just got off phone with the guy who solicited the donation. It's not the biggest donation the Mir has ever gotten.
YWN generally reports things that aren't true and/or overhyped, so you can't believe anything they write. If they're headline read "Sun rises today" I would be skeptical.
The guy who is raising the money was asked by Rabbi Finkel days before he passed, to raise $20mil. He started about 2 weeks ago, and is up to $14m. He was upset, because he though it would only take him 10 days

He does so much good because he is the type of guy who would never sit and talk how someone elses donation should have been given a different way and that the yeshiva doesn't really need that much money and that not all of it goes straight to the actual needs of the yeshiva etc. etc.
