For those who want to churn and/or want to get the bonus without paying the annual fee: Wait until the A/F gets charged, pay it off with the rest of the bill, and the sign-up bonus will post (at the end of that billing cycle). Then call to close the account and ask to be refunded. They can't charge an A/F for a card you aren't using. You will not lose the miles once they are in your US Airways account.

It seems that if after you use the card you just let it sit unused for a couple months, they will then email you with a targeted offer for 15,000 more points for spending $750 a month for three months.

I told them that most of my cc waive the fee for first year and even other barclay cards waive it.

i was referring to the 2nd year,however i got the 1st years fee waived as well.
it seems that a regular csr can't do it,ask for an account manager.

I Called today and they said the only thing they can do is downgrade the card and then I wouldn't get the 40,000 miles.
So I was wondering if after they post on my us airways account will they claw back the miles ?

What did you downgrade to?

ETA: Just got the same offer. I declined, and after a few minutes she offered 5k miles to spend 1k by the end of Jan.
So for now i guess ill make sure i get the additional miles and call back after....

Or you can take her advice, downgrade and reapply in a week and get 40k miles for $1 spend and $89AF while this party still lasts.
