I just recently signed up for SPG and just recieved the following offer. I would probably like to go somewhere other thatn AZ but this is what they sent :)

Enjoy a 5-day, 4-night stay at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Phoenix-Scottsdale for just $379 and receive:
•Your choice of 7,000 Starpoints® from the Starwood Preferred Guest® program or
a $75 resort certificate that can be used toward shopping, dining or spa services

Has anyone done one of these vacations? Is it a timesahre pitch where I need to spend 90 minutes? If so, is it worth it? High pressure sales?
Any info would really be appreciated.

Thanks
S

Definitely a timeshare pitch.  Still a good deal though as those Starpoints are worth $150 or so.

Really?  So what's the deal?  I've read about many similar sounding SPG offers that involved a pitch.

Actually I dont see anything in the "Details" that mentions sitting through a presentation or such. I guess it is possible that they may mention it during booking.

Is it a nice place?
I stayed there a few months ago. Beautiful place, a few pools, lazy river. And I got upgraded to a villa.

From what I read it should be a timeshare sell there, but hey, who knows!

I understand that a timeshare sell is a bit of an inconvenience, but beyond sitting through a presentation, is it really that bad? Do they badger you during your entire stay? Surely they want you to have a nice time if they have any expectation that you will want to return on a more permanent basis.

Not saying it's bad, but I made the presumption that OPs offer was a timeshare based on the simalar offer for Maui that others have reported here to be a timeshare offer.

As long as you're strong-willed to say no, no, and no again it's fine, but obviously they wouldn't keep making these offers if there weren't a decent percentage of suckers that say yes.

I have a difficult time picturing actually being sold into one of these things if:A) I am not in the market for a time share and B) I couldn't afford one even if I was so inclined.

If you get Cancun for Cash and Points is a much better deal than these timeshares and you can avoid the pressure. Additionally, you can probably still sit through the time share presentation and get even more than they are offering you now.
