how to setup a wii for an internet free home
« on: December 20, 2011, 08:32:39 AM »
does anyone here have instructions on how to set up a wii game for an internet and tv free home?  is there a way to disable the internet browser?  can it be hooked up to a computer monitor or do i have to buy a tv and pay someone to takeout the tv tuner?

thanks for any suggestions.

1. Not all TVs have tuners
2. You can get an older analog TV which no longer picks up signals
it can be connected to a computer monitor
Really? How aside from an expensive converter box, or if your monitor has HDMI. Most budget ones don't

ok, so i need a tv without a tuner or a computer screen with HDMI? any recommendations on where to find either of these?  I would like a nice size monitor that can go on the playroom wall.

My family hooked theirs up to a 50 or so inch fat panel we found in the garbage. I can't imagine it has anything other than an analog tuner.
You should be able to pick one up on craigslists or locally on ebay for dirt cheap.

Don't know, I remember when I looked into it ppl told me the only option was to buy a $50 converter. It's possible things have changed

So to start this conversation over a couple of years later...

I bought my kids a WII U for chanuka and now need to figure out if my 10 yr old computer monitor will work with it or if I need a new computer monitor or a TV screen?
I am looking for a cheap method that will have good quality and not looking to have TV in the home. Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

Thanks!

You should be able to get it working with your computer monitor with some adapters (probably $25 range for good ones). But for what adapter you need you'll first need to let us know what input ports the old monitor has.

If it has a VGA then something like this would probably (never used a WII, so I can't assure you anything) work https://www.amazon.com/TNP-Wii-PS3-VGA-Cable-PlayStation/dp/B01JOBW12K/ref=pd_sbs_63_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=SVKX80JGRV9Z1DG9XQ3V
