I'm thinking of going to Portland for a day on my way to Seattle. How are the Zoo and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry? Anything else I should look into?

I'm traveling alone, no kids.

Nothing particularly outstanding at the Zoo, OMSI is nice.

Portland is very much about nature, you can check out Pittock Mansion and the view from there, the OHSU tram gives you an aerial view of the city, North Mississippi and Pioneer square give you a bit of the city vibe.

For food your best bet is the Holy Smokes kosher food cart.

If you have a car, the Columbia River gorge is a possible half day trip.
