Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

Here's one that Im in middle of:

A vendor that  does work for me offered me a money for any referrals I bring to him and signup with his services. A few weeks ago My working partner got an email from a friend of ours asking about who we use for the service that above vendor provides. Since I deal with this vendor and would be able to advise our friend properly he forwarded the email to me. After speaking to me he signed on with my vendor. Do I share the referral bonus with my partner?
Not sure if this is relevant, but at the time he forwarded me the email he was not aware that I was offered a referral incentive.
Unless you have a special arrangement, I'd think that, as a partner, you'd have to share it even if he wasn't the one who forwarded the email to you.
If you don't care why would you comment?

And why is that?

Because as a business partner you owe him "the punctilio of an honor the most sensitive."

In other words, any revenue related to the business should be shared, unless you have a different arrangement.

What if we have a non profit? Are you considering this revenue of the business?

i don think this is an issue ethically, however i dont thing that it would be worth it to have this potentially cause a feelings of mistrust in your partnership... just my 2cents

I'd be pissed if my partner was taking referral fees behind my back.

He knows about it. I told him I'd ask what others think. Looks like I got my answer.

I bought something from Groupon last week during the 20% off promo, today they came out with a 25% off code. I SMed to see if I can get credited the difference.

They just answered that they will credit the difference (in Groupon Dollars), but instead of crediting 5% (the difference between last week's promo and this week's) they credited the full 25%.

How far do I have to go to let them know?

Respond and explain the situation, I would be shocked if they took anything back

Can we stop with the "you're allowed to steal from a non-jew" BS. While it may be halachically okay (is it?), the chilul Hashem that it can cause definitely isn't. Coming from someone that spends the majority of his day interacting with non-jews, it's saddening how bad of a reputation us Jews have gotten because of people who conduct their business with this line of reasoning. And the ethical thing to do would be to report it.

Is it ethical... to book a suite under someone else's name (for the same travel time as you have booked a standard room for yourself) and cancel it right before your stay so that there will be an empty suite upon arrival and your status can get you upgraded to it? Just posting to hear people's thoughts.

If you have a free hotel room which can only be used by you is it ethical to book it for someone else with you also down on the room?

I bought something from Ebay mistakenly and caught the mistake right away, I requested to cancel it and they were nice enough too cancel it,

The item still showed up at my door...I checked yes I got my money back

Can I sell the Item on Ebay?
If you think nobody cares about you... just forget to pay your credit card bill
