Local and/or state laws regarding car seats and child restraint systems (booster seats).

New York's Occupant Restraint laws require the following:

  • Children up to the age of 4 must be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat that is attached to a vehicle by a seat belt or universal child restraint anchorage (LATCH) system.
  • Children less than age 4 but weighing more than 40 poundsmay be restrained in a booster seat with a lap/shoulder safety belt. However, a child safety seat that accommodates higher weights can be used.
  • Children ages 4, 5, 6 and 7 must be properly secured in an appropriate child restraint system, one for which the child meets the height and weight recommendations of the child restraint manufacturer.*
  • An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child's size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
  • A vehicle's safety belt is NOT a child restraint system.
  • Children riding in booster seats must be secured with a combination lap/shoulder seat belt, NEVER secure a child in a booster seat with only a lap belt.
  • From the age of 8 until they reach their 16th birthday, children must be restrained in a seat belt whenever they ride in a vehicle. All Front seat passengers must be properly restrained at all times, regardless of age.
  • Children 12 years and younger should ride in the back seat. By simply buckling up your child in the back seat reduces his/her risk of death by 33%.

*It is recommended that booster seats be used until your child is 4 foot 9 inches tall or weighs 100 pounds.[/li][/list]

Can anyone weigh in on the Chicco NextFit vs Maxi Cosi Pria 70

Or, is there anything cheaper that's worth looking into as well?

Until what age do people use these carseats in general?

TIA

Check out the graco extend 2 fit, you can sometimes find it under $200 on sale . Great car seat.  Use the car seat until read for a high back booster, usually around age 5. You can also switch to a harness booster from age 2 and on.

Thanks! Are you referring to the 4ever extend2fit or the regular one? The 4ever one is like double the price.

BTW target has a bunch of gracos on sale today

I see that the Chicco NextFit Zip has a feature where you can remove the fabric part to wash it without unbuckling the carseat. Any other carseats have that feature?

Looking for something comfortable as we spend a lot of time in the car. Any recommendations? For a 2.5 year old kid who is about 35 pounds. It doesn't need to turn into a booster if that makes a difference.

The maxi Cosi Pria 85 definitely does. Even some cheaper ones have that these days. Very handy.

85 is wider on the inside and could get taller, supporting kids that are older. There may some other improvements. I got mine on eBay brand new for about $130 iirc a couple of years ago. I just searched around recently and they're all much more expensive now.

Thanks! It looks like the minimum weight is higher too in the 85. Aside from that are there any differences?

Of all the options that Graco now has for their SnugLock (not SnugRide) infant seats, does anyone happen to know which weighs the least (without the base)? Can't seem to find the info online...

Looks like they have a SnugLock 30, SnugLock 35, SnugLock 35 Elite, SnugLock 35 XT, LX, and the list goes on...

Looking for the best car seat, bought the  Britax Marathon ClickTight originally, however found it very bulky (interfering with back of drivers seat in SUV) and also when rear facing very difficult to recline without unblocking.

Now im looking for another one, so many options. Seems like the Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat people love, also the maxi cosi I know a few people that have.

If anyone can point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

If more details are needed -

budget - upto $350
features - easy to get kid strapped in
easy to adjust the straps
easy to clean (machine wash)

And I think that's it, TIA!
