Author Topic: AMEX AU without SSN/DOB (Read 18885 times)

I added a few AUs on 2 om my AMEX OPEN (biz) cards a few (3-5) months ago. added over the phone and said i would call back with the SSN/DOB. got the cards anyway.
this past week i got a letter from AMEX on both cards asking to confirm the info.

(assuming I'd rather not bother adding the info) can i just ignore it?
will they shut the accounts? (in which case I probably should cancel the AUs myself first)?
will ignoring it invite scrutiny (FR) on the entire account? (in which case I should DEFINITELY comply/cancel first)?

anyone have experience?

and the cards are still open? you've gotten more than one letter for each card?

everything is still open without issues.

one letter for one card and 2 letters for the other

I have 3 au's in my amex plat for 4/5 yrs NEVER gave them any social, evenmore my wife's name appears as her married+nick name totally different then any legal document or ss

I never submitted any info about my AU on SPG nor was I ever asked.

When I ordered a replacement for my SPG Business card and activated it online, during the activation process it gave me the option to add an additional user but all it asked for was the first and last name! No DOB or SSN. I did it for my brother and I got the card and haven't got any letters about it!

I don't think the OP's point was too find out whether people were asked initially for the info. He wants to know if anyone else received the letters later asking for it, and whether at that point you sent them in or not. Also, saying you didn't get the letters doesn't really add anything at this point

You might be able to get away by saying that the AU is not a US citizen, rather a citizen of some weird country like Nicaragua and make up a number for their Nicaraguan drivers license/passport.

P.S. Having just the DOB on the initial phonecall might have avoided the letter altogether.. just a deduction from my own experience, could be wrong on this one..

I've provided DOB and still got the letter.

I have been doing it for years no S.S. and nick name for a.u. , got a few letters , never a problem --- i have a friend who wanted the extra points and used his dogs name!! and got the renewal card"s" and jokes about it--his dog's name --Sandy

I got letters recently to provide SSN's for AU's.
Does anyone have an update about this?
I don't have much use for the AU's anyways, and I will anyways be closing the account before next November (SBS) to avoid annual fee, so is it worth keeping these open just in case AMEX comes out with a promo which is usable by AU's.

Update: I got a letter asking for his SSN and DOB a few weeks ago, but I have so far ignored it, and the card is still listed online as one of the AUs

The other day I added an AU to my Amex and, since I had the SSN info of the AU, I willingly offered the rep to provide the info, and she's like "its not necessary, you're all set"..
