Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim)
There are two trails from the south rim that go down into the canyon (and all the way to the canyon floor, which is a strenuous multi-day hike). You can experience a taste of it, by turning around at any point.
  • South Kaibab Trail - One of the top rated trails for the GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
  • Bright Angel Trail - Also one of the top rated trails for GC (trail descends into the canyon, uphill climb on return)
There are also trails along the south rim (called Rim Trails) that don't descend into the canyon, and are relatively flat. These offer views of the canyon and are dotted with various scenic viewpoints. Some areas of the rim trail are paved others are not. These may be more suitable those with young children or those fear of hiking near the edge of the canyon cliffs. The National park shuttle buses also transport passengers to various points within the park, along the south rim.
A PDF map of grand canyon national park south rim is at https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/news/upload/sr-pocket-map.pdf
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges

Nearby attractions outside the National Park include:
  • Skywalk
  • Bearizona Wildlife Park - Williams, AZ

Lake Powell (popular lake for boating, with kayak, motor boat, pontoon boat, houseboat rentals, Jetski, boat tours, and swimming). Lake and surrounding canyon walls are uniquely scenic together (it's actually a huge artificial reservoir surrounded by canyon walls, resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam

Does my routing above make sense? Or are there better ideas? (We're not doing LV for tznius issues.)
The same tznius issues you have in LV (billboards I'm assuming?) you'll have everywhere in California.

Nah, not really billboards. Its more because of a reputation LV has. I'm not backing out of California by now. :)

Meh.  Lots of fun free stuff to do in Vegas for kids without seeing anything worse than LA/SD and tons of great hiking as well.

Maybe if I stay far from the strip it could work.

Any examples of great things to do around there? (I need to convince some people.)

It also helps break up the length of the trip.

I once heard it's better to drive from North to South?

Anyway, the rental price might be very dif for pickup in in AZ & drop off in CA or vice versa, so look into that.

??? Judging from your review, one could think that you have a whole variety of Kosher restaurants to eat over there..

Not like you have much else.

I know of 2 families that might be going to the Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona for the Shabbos Chanukah Weekend. They have 6 men and can bring a sefer torah. They need 4 more for a minyan. With the current 50% SPG resort promotion you can get the nicest Starwood property in the US for 32K points for 5 nights and possibly have a minyan on shabbos.

Please let me know if you are going so I know if my friend will have a minyan.

According to google maps it is a 2 hour walk to the frum community. Are you sure there are frum people who live within walking distance to the Phoenician?

What do you mean by "PUTPAC"? Can someone tell me is there is a chabad away from the main jewish community and near the Phoenician?
