If u have a mastercard world credit card rent from eldan. Call them up and mention the fact that u will not be paying insurance and the rate will come out to less than 20 dollars per day for the smallest car.

Coming back to yerent.

I had some nasty surprises there.

They (Sixt) added all kind of new taxes (as the regular taxes were included).

Season taxes, peak taxes,...

I asked them as Sixt has an orange logo, doesn't that deserve another tax...

There were 3 accidents (=traffic jams) on the way back, so I didn't have time to refuel (I had a flight to catch).

I had used exactly half of the fuel, and they wanted almost $200 for it....

I asked them whether I can sign for payment (they iron the credit card), and I will see if the check-in goes smoothly I'll return to refuel, but they didn't let.

As I spoke english to them, they figured  that I don't understand the slang they speak, so they started making fun of me; so I stood for some 10 minutes before the door and scared customers away. (between 2 and 30 seconds walk you have different rental companies).

I must say that I was pretty successful at it  ;-D

They finally apologized and begged me to stop.

actually the rental company has to cover up to state minimum (in NY state it can be like $10-20, most states it's like 1/4 of that) and you're still on the hook for anything above that. Liability they sell you is Suplemental (from state min. to 1 million or something)

otherwise you're correct; if you do anything stupid they can come after your assets for the remainder of the damage

(with no assets, can they send it to collections (credit damage)/charge future earnings?)

CDW from a credit card covers that.
