AFAIK the legal methods come with DRM. That's why I suggested torrent for easiest method. Once you're stripping the DRM or ripping a blu-ray, what's the difference from downloading a torrent?

I used to take movies I owned and using Handbrake had them all on a USB. 

I don't have any experience using torrent sites honestly.

And I have no issue taking a video I paid for and putting on a PC or USB for my own use.

I haven't used Handbrake in years but it should still be a good choice if you have DVDs. If you buy your movies from apple or amazon you'll just need to buy software to strip the DRM but the process should be pretty straightforward.

So Handbrake keeps shutting down and I googled it and apparently it has problems on Windows 10.  Any alternatives out there that someone can recommend?

Tribler sounds interesting. I set it up, but couldn't find what I was looking for through their search. Can I just grab any torrent and get it going in Tribler, or does that ruin the anonymity part?

I think Tribler functions separately. Honestly, I would stay away from Tribler. From what I remember, it was loaded with bugs and security holes which defeated it's purpose. There is also the chance that you can be part of other the distribution of other people downloading things like child porn. Better to use VPN with torrent if that's the route you want to take.
