I hear what you're saying, but they also sometimes, and I'm generalizing here, don't understand what is considered good business practices and what isn't. That comes from a very sheltered upbringing, including a lack of education. It's ok when you're business is all within the community, but outside the ghetto it can be a real Chilul Hashem.

Yup, it's unfortunately extremely prevalent. Last year we were meeting with a financial adviser who told us he advised his own daughter not to legally marry and that he was considering "divorcing" his own wife (he found an interesting way to justify it. He doesn't want to support the state's new definition of marriage...)

while i, by no means, condone the behavior you mention, and would never practice it myself, at least that isnt straight up illegal and absolutely assur. they are loopholes which are certainly not yashar and some may call them assur (i could be wrong and its possibly they are illegal.)
but the practices mentioned a few posts earlier make me want to puke
