-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports/stations. Here is a list of locations.

1. Stonehenge
2. Bath
3. Windsor Castle

Usually you can get tours that do all 3 in the same day as a bus trip.

There is a Chinese place called Kaifeng (sp?) and an Israeli joint called The White House. Kaifeng I think is more sit down IIRC and White House is order at the counter and get your food (but had some really excellent shawarma).

There is a relatively new restuarant in edgeware that i ate at last night that was very good called popolinas. they have an all you can eat for 25 pounds. comes with dips, salads, sides, duck, lamb, chicken, kufta, spicy beef sausages and steak. the steak wasn't too good but everything else was.

in golders green novelino and isso labella are nice cafes.  A lot of people recommended a meat restaurant in hendon called 86 bistro as the only nice meat place to go in the hendon goldergreen area.

I would HIGHLY recommend the new Isola Bella at the Westfield shopping centre. Much better food, service and ambiance than the one in Hendon (it's dairy btw). Also, you could spend some time shopping in the beautiful mall. If you're venturing into Edgware, try out the Aviv Restaurant (Meat), nothing fancy, but plain good food...

the soup and desserts in Isola Bella westfield are amazing. I found popolinas to be nicer than the aviv once your already going to edgware to eat.

If I was flying BA J/F I would enjoy the great BA lounges and the excellent free kosher food there.
London is an extremely expensive city with mediocre food and attractions IMHO.  I'm not sure what you plan to do at Buckingham Palace except spend time and money to get a look at it.

I had a 12 hr layover there in the fall and had a great time exploring the city. We did tons in a short amount of time and enjoyed it immensely. We took the HeathrowExpress to save time (yes it is very expensive) to get to the city.

Some highlights:

London Eye
British Museum (for only a short time, its massive)
Walk by of Westminster Abbey and Big Ben/Parliament
Trafalgar Square
Buckingham Palace gates/guards view
Selfridges (kosher food inside as well - picked up for lunch)
Marble Arch/Speaker's Corner

We had a great time walking the city and enjoying the day. We also managed to grab a cup of coffee with my cousin who works right near the Tate Modern (we met at the coffee shop on the top floor of the museum overlooking the Thames).

Good times and definitely what to see and do there if you've never been before.

The London Eye is over $30 to go around the Ferris Wheel one time...is that really worth it?
And that's typical of London pricing.

I had a great experience on the London Eye, YMMV.

But in general you're correct, practically everything in London is overpriced.
