-If you plan on using public transportation, get an Oyster card. They are much cheaper and easier to use than conventional travel cards, and never expire. They can be bought in many stores in London, or online. These days one can use contactless credit cards instead of Oyster.(Check here to see if your foreign contactless card will work.)

-Here is a handy planner for the public transport system.

-DD's Kosher Sandwiches can be bought in most major airports and stations and at some supermarkets around London.  Check here for a list of locations.

-Kosher in the West End/City -
Selfridges food hall has a variety of kosher groceries and prepackaged ready food by 1701.

-Minyan in the West End could be found at the Marble Arch Synagogue. Shacharis during the week is followed by breakfast, and a kiddush on Shabbos.

-Most food products in general stores do not have a hechsher on them. This does not necessarily mean they are not kosher. For example, Coca-Cola does not have a hechsher, but it is kosher. Here is an online kosher product search that could help. Link to Android app.

Sephardi Kashrut Authority - https://sephardikashrut.org.uk/
Not on CRC or KosherQuest lists.
Kashrus in Europe and Israel should be added to the why people go OTD thread.

What is SKA supervision? How accepted is it?

It is not considered very good, however many people eat at Reubens which is under their supervision.

Interesting. I thought everyone eats at Reubens?
Is it glatt meat?

Their level of kashrus is a big debate. I think they are Glatt.

A new high-class kosher restaurant called Tish is supposedly opening up soon as well. They are billing it as within Central London but looking online it looks like it'll be Belsize Park which is not CL at all. Supervision tbc but expect KLBD.

Sounds promising. tish.london

Belsize Park location makes sense, due to the proximity to Hampstead, Finchley etc. where many of their clientele would probably from and it's not far from Central London.

Such a holier than thou attitude, it really stinks. How do you know it isn't considered very good when pretty much the whole UK kehilla eats it.

You evidently don't know London too well as it's fairly far from CL and won't get the lunchtime work trade. The PR so far has been billed as a CL restaurant, which at the moment only includes Reubens.

It's just confusing. Most restaurants in Europe and Israel have hashgocha, but most frum Jews don't eat there.
Didn't know London was bad as well.

I've spent many many years in London and this is to the best of my understanding.

SKA is a not accepted by most (Ashkenazim) who identify as ultra Orthodox.

As far as meat is concerned, I believe KLBD, KF and SKA are all part of the London Board of Shechita and are all kept to the same standards. (Kedassia is not part of the London Board of Shechita.)

That may explain why many would rely on SKA for Parve etc. and on the board of Shechita for meat. The question is what happens to everything in between. Maybe many would rather not think about that question.

Okaay....  ::)

I live in London and many people I know don't eat there. Do you know who the owner is? Have you ever seen the mashgiach?

You evidently don't know London too well as it's fairly far from CL and won't get the lunchtime work trade. The PR so far has been billed as a CL restaurant, which at the moment only includes Reubens.

There aren't as many observant Jews working in CL as in say, NYC. Dinner time is when the main business happens.

As for lunch, there are many delivery services that the restaurant will probably take advantage of and a 15 min trip by tube isn't terrible either.

Anything Kosher in Leeds?

There is a kosher cafe which is milchig in they day, and fleishig at night a few times a week. Food is fine.

https://ljwb.co.uk/how-we-can-help-you/eat-meet-greet-2/food-drink/restaurant-cafe/

You can also pick up reasonably priced frozen meals or shabbat takeaway there

https://ljwb.co.uk/how-we-can-help-you/eat-meet-greet-2/food-drink/food-home/

There is a bakery in the grounds of one of the main shuls. I thought it was pretty good. They also do sandwiches, savouries, cakes etc

https://www.facebook.com/streetlanebakery/

Branches of both Tesco and Sainsbury close to jewish area sell cheese, meats, cold goods, frozen etc etc. There is also a butcher but you probably won't need that.

It's also less then 1 hour to Manchester, with plenty of other options.

All in all, not too bad!

There is also minyan 3 times/day in each of the three main shuls + extra at a shtiebel.

That’s ridiculous
I hope the Hashgacha was good

No one ever said anything about Reubens when I asked

Actually the opposite they said the only place you can eat at in town is Reuben’s everything else is GG etc.

I hope people here are not just spreading Lh

Who did you ask?

Many people eat there, it is usually full in the evening. Having said that, there are many who don't rely on the Hashgacha and don't eat there.

It all depends on your kashrus standards. Saying that people don't eat there, doesn't mean that it's treif.

It is indeed currently the only kosher place in Central London.

But you only consider it a place to eat if you consider it worthy of eating. I asked locals.

So, if you asked people you trust and they said that it's fine, then you're good.
