Ess & Bentch wannabe

I doubt whether anyone could replicate the original, the times were so different.

Went to Artisan bakehouse for a light breakfast.
The chocolate croissant and the cream cheese frosted cinnamon bun were heaven. Great coffee drinks too.

Didn't try the bread or any of the food there, but the 2 pastries we had were definitely better than ZTB.
The owner told me that they're expanding soon to offer even more food options.

Great food at Brooklyn Artisan Bakehouse. And, they use California Gourmet chocolate in their croissants, cookies, and pastries.

Glad to hear that they are expanding their menu. They have an excellent chef and a pastry chef, too.

Hit up Artisan for pastries and took a panini home which was excellent as well.
B&B but should have just stuck with the apps.
And took Izzys home for dinner tonight.

CH has great items now. Have you tasted Izzy's menu fresh on-site? The wood-smoked dinosaur ribs and BBQ wings?

I've had the ribs fresh, amazing.
Pastrami ribs are even better, though I've only had them to go.
Pulled beef is insanely good and reheats perfectly.

Speaking to some old timers who worked behind the counter in the original Ess & Bentch. The consensus is that this seems to be a cheap (not the prices on the menu, but rather the quality) imitation.

IMO a place where one would walk in with a wife cannot be called Ess & Bentch. I don't recall ever seeing any females in the original.

Also, I would guess that people that experienced the original might have a certain bias/expectation.

Ess & Bentch wannabe awning which was put up yesterday was already destroyed (probably by a truck turning onto Union Street).

Lesson: you need to know both your customer base (as noted in audio review above), and your physical environment (don't expect a protrusion onto a sidewalk that is no more than 5 ft wide, on a narrow street (which is a legal alternative for commercial traffic not allowed on the next street) to remain safe).
