HTC EVO Root
« on: February 21, 2012, 01:00:45 AM »
Does anyone have a link with JUST the (accurate and up to date) instructions for rooting the Evo?
I know how to use Google and I know about xdadevelopers, please don't suggest those, too much info over there and lingo I don't understand (not really a techie).. that's why I'm looking for the step-by-step instructions. Maybe from someone who recently did it?

Looking to put ICS on my Evo and to get rid of Sprint's unwanted apps. Enhancing the phone's speed and battery life big pluses as well.

Any help will be appreciated.

I believe this is what your looking for, back in the days that I had my evo I used this thread and recommended it for lots of non-techie people, and worked great for them.
Its basically a very ez step by step guide how to root and what do download.

BTW: this is only for android 2.2,
if you have Gingerbread 2.3.3 look here
and for 2.3.5 here  here

Thank you, do you know anyone firsthand who followed these directions successfully without bricking the phone?
Specifically 2.3.5

yes, stock or stock rom is used as a term for the rom that comes from the manufacturer or the original that came with the phone.

Oh, I guess I'm OK with my Evo then and don't need to rush to upgrade, even though I can virtually upgrade already.
If I were in your place I would have rooted my Evo, installed ICS and wait for HTC to come out with something (probably this summer), exactly what I'm looking to do. The combination of HTC Sense and Android is just too powerful..

I also thought like you until I got the galaxy, can't compare the two.
And btw my evo was always rooted since the day I got it, there is no stable ics for the evo as far as I know.

MEH, I can improve the battery and speed with rooting. Won't waste my upgrade on the S2 at least until the summer to see if htc comes out with something.
