Advice re: Missing an AA flight on BA award
« on: March 15, 2012, 07:13:27 PM »
In need to fly DFW-MEM tomorrow. Award seats are only open on the 9:00 AM. I can't make it until the 12:55 AM flight.
AA charges $75 for same-day confirmed or standby. There are a lot of seats open on the second flight, so I don't mind going standby.

Will AA waive the $75 for an Alaska MVP?

If I intentionally miss the first flight, will I still get charged the $75?

All I could say is - last week I was flying with AA, I had a stopover... It was a 3 hour stopover... While I was waiting I realized there was an earlier flight... I tried 2 times to see if I could get on it. Even though it was an empty flight they wouldn't let me unless I paid $75

I missed a UA flight on an AC award and was allowed on the next for free.

UA isn't AA

And a missed flight might be different than standby for an earlier flight - I deff dont know exactly how AA works. PUTPAC and see what an agent tells you.

That won't get me any closer to knowing...

CSR says they'll reaccomdate me if possible on another flight. That's in line with my experience with UA.

Now the question is if I should schlep to the airport to check in my luggage before the earlier flight so I work with the GA's who are nicer than the Check-in reps, or will I be ok with the regular check-in people?

I doubt its worth the schlep - after all its virtually impossible that they won't let me on the next flight, worst case they'll charge me the $75

a couple of weeks ago I missed an aa flight from ba and they put me on the next flight although my case may have been different because I got to the gate before the official departure time but they had already closed the gate because everyone else was on board

I reported on a different thread I went there and was allowed on the second flight without any questions asked

I have 3 business tickets JFK-LAX at 745am. Would really rather fly later. IYE if I just show up late to the airport I'll get on the next flight no questions asked?

Yes, IME. You'd be runing into issues with biz class full with upgraded pax though.

Think it's worth the risk or should I wake up my two little ones before 6?

Don't blame if it doesn't work, but I personally would miss it, as long as there are enough open seats in biz.
