I reserved four nights at the Fairmount Kea Lani using free nights from the credit card.  The Fairmont program definitely has some interesting rules.

First, they mailed me physical certificates which I will need to bring with me and present at check-in.  They could see that I have free nights earned on my account, so I don't know why I actually have to present the certificate.

Second, they told me the room rate for each night of my stay was $700, and that if I fail to cancel the free night reservation 21 days in advance of the free night, I will have to pay a one-night charge ($700).  I know SPG has similar rules about a cash charge for no-shows on award stays, but this seems excessive at 21 days.  Oh, yeah, if I accidentally forget to bring the certificate on my vacation (or lose it), I'm out of luck and will need to be pay the $700 for the first night if its within 21 days.

IME at 3 different Fairmont's you don't actually need the certs and they can look it up. But could be different if you're not elite, or this location is just weird.

I think CC certs are different than Platinum e-certs.

If you're so negative about this why are you so ecstatic about the living social deal? Or is it only because you didn't pay for any of your living social deals?

imo the living social deal is nor worth that much anymore as it is 95 $ a year and 12,000 spending a year which I value as 2.2 cpp minus 1.0 cpp is 1.2 cpp lost x 12,000 is 144$ so that is 240 $ a year not so great

I'm not negative at all, but if someone if is opening a cc for a specific trip I'd hope they do their due diligence (blackouts dates, capacity controls, etc)

There's a big difference of a lifetime of free nights in a suite (with free scotch/massage/rounds of golf with lessons/gift cards for Saks, itunes, and Fairmont, etc) versus 2 free standard room nights that are good for one year.  Additionally the points system on this cc is downright awful.

The credit card upgrades you to premier automatically which also has a suite upgrade and if you spend 12000 a year you get a free night

Didn't realize Premier gets a suite, that's nice.
But $12,000 is better spent for signup bonuses or on GCs with Ink that will earn several hotel nights nicer and with more choices than the very limited amount that Fairmont has.

Same last name shouldn't be a problem. Often they didn't even look at my ID when I did show it. But why not just call and ask?

how long does it usually take for the crts to post after meeting the 1k spending? I'm starting to get worried, traveling in 3 weeks and still nothing online.
