United Mileageplus Explorer card churn process
« on: April 08, 2012, 02:49:14 PM »
I am about to churn my united mileage explorer card for first time. Please help me validate my steps.

1. I had first time opened this card in 02/12. Got bo us miles. Transferred all existing credit line (except $500, some how cannot move last $500 line) to get approval for chase preferred card.
2. Canceled united card. 04/12.
3. Open new united mileage plus number.

Now questions.
1. Shall I apply new united card with new number now?
2.  Is it too soon?
3. Am I missing any steps?

Any experiences for this card churn is appreciated.

did you use up  all the miles before you canceled the card? in the term it says miles will gone if card is canceled.

you closed in 2 months after you applied?

???  It does?  News to me.  Miles transferred to UA will stay in your account even after you cancel your card.  Miles earned before they post & transfer to UA may not.  Welcome to the forums.

You think timing wise 70 days are good enough or too less time to churn?

I just  saw it here,

MILES DON'T EXPIRE: Your miles will not expire as long as there is activity on your credit card account, including paying your annual membership fee, and the credit card account is open and not in default. Upon cancellation of your credit card account your miles will expire according to the MileagePlus Program Rules.

Are you agreeing with John or saying that card has to be in effect in order for miles to not expire ?

Dubious interpretation IMO . Miles earned by BIS don't expire till certain time period , Approximately 18 months IIRC .

dont play the blame game if i stated something wrong, then please explain  how it  is not the right interpretation.  i just typed what the terms said, that's it,

"Upon cancellation of your credit card account your miles will expire according to the MileagePlus Program Rules"

Ok- so your missing the boat here, "Miles Will Expire"- means that miles will expire in the future! Many FF programs have expiration policy's when it comes to their miles, which means that if there is no activity on the account for a certain amount of time (18 months or so for united) the milage will expire. But if you have the CC- they will not expire.
