As I wrote earlier on this thread, I'm trying to figure out different patterns so one of the theories is that if you have multiple cards at one bank and only use some, they will keep the unused ones open. But again, so far its only a theory and not confirmed.

Amex closed my blue cash card without even telling me even though I have 5 other open amex cards atm. (I may have only had 2 of those 5 at the time they closed the blue cash card.)

And I have some 5+ Citicards, they recently closed one for no use when I have other cards with them that I haven't used for just as long (24 months or so). To clarify, I also have a card or two with them that I do use.

Yes one of them is my primary SPG card which I spend at least $600 a month on, sometimes $1k+

So far I've never had a reg cc closed due to inactivity, buy have had a few store cards closed... Children's place (issued by Citi) after a few years of inactivity...

As far as credit goes, it's not good for credit to have a $0 statement balance reported.
And I don't see what the big deal is to buy a pack of gum every month...

It is not what is on one particular card that matters to show usage, rather not ending with a $0 balance across all cards cumulatively.

On the flip side if a single individual card is too high that can hurt.

Well this is how people get confused. Am I right or wrong? I believe I am correct but don't recall when I saw that info. I could probably google and find something that supports me, but it still may be wrong. Why don't you clarify so I don't make people more confused?

How can having a zero balance on your CC hurt you? Before someone says something stupid like "they want to see usage of the card" are you aware certain reports will show your usage/payments for the month?
