Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

The annual fee for my united milage plus card  kicks in Nov 1. I just called to cancel and they gave me a $100 credit to keep it open. What are the reprecussions If I close the card after I get the credit?

Oh. OK thanks, as long as they don't give a hard time for taking the credit and still shutting it down

BUMP.
Found this from last year. That's about it
Amex green card, 25k MR points for staying on, no spending requirements! I called the cancellation dept. And said I would like to cancel the card because of the annual fee, he said this is the highest offer I can give you, and I obviously took it happily.

10k MR for keeping amex green card open.

(Tried to ask for more to cover for the AU AF, but he claimed that's their highest offer that they give to people who spend 20k per month.. so gave in.)

You spend $20k a month on your Green card?
