I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

I just got hit with the $95 AF on my United mileage plus explorer card and the rep claimed that there aren't any retention offers for me, and my only option is to downgrade to a no -fee card. Would HUCA help me?
HUCA'ing to no avail, they all claim there is no retention offer at all available...ready to throw in the towel :-\

Having trouble getting anyone in the Citi retention office. Front line reps keep saying that retention is closed (that they get a memo). It was 9 AM EST. Weird, huh? Anyone else?

Called again and got the same shpeel (?), but I spoke to a senior rep who confirmed that Citi's new model is getting rid of their retention department b/c of "customers who call several times a year on the same product for offers".

This is for my prestige card. I was originally offered, $125 on my first call, but said "can I think about it and get back to you"--it's okay for no spending. Sr. rep is going to pull the call logs to see if she can honor that.

Pretty frustrating if true as I don't call, out of sheer laziness, multiple times a year.

Supposedly, the retention department was shifted to handle Costco crowd. It's possible this is temporary (being as there's an overwhelming volume of calls coming in from the new customers).
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

That would make sense, but you'd think they would know the difference between "closed" and "temporarily suspended" or something similar...

Heavy spend?
Yes...
last year i got that offer but now i called alreay few times and they tell me no offer avail for me, does it depend on the spending or the time u call?
I had to wait it should be like 13 months from the last time I got a bonus. I paid the AF like 2 months ago and called now that I wanna closed the card and there was an offer right there.

But it indeed looks like its something the system does they never give anything manually.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Managed to get amex plat biz AF covered by using 45k points, rep said is rock bottom price would usually need 75k.

Your retention offer was being allowed to redeem 45k MR at 1 cpp? Ouch.

And that gives me another year of airline credits, plus 30% back on my selected airline when I pay with points. So to keep these benefits and not having to pay cash for it, I think its worth it. (Without the offer I'd have to use 75k points to cover the AF)

you do know that you can sell 45k points for a lot more than 450 dollars right?

Or you could've sold 45k for $575 and used cash to pay the AF. A retention bonus on top of that would have been nice too.

I was first offered 10k mr for keeping if open, But for some reason this sounded better at the time. Can they cancel and change a retention offer once accepted ?
How would I sell just 45k without giving access to my account ?
