Topic Wiki

I'm trying to summarize success stories mentioned in this thread.
From @TC610
It never hurts to ask - retention is a big YMMV.  If you don't like the offer given to you when you call for retention, ask for a better one.  Scan through the thread (use the search bar - reading through 130+ pages of posts can be time consuming) to see what others have been offered. Please post what you've got if its better then whats in the WIKI

There was nothing else wrong or suspicious with your accounts ? What was violated ? Is there a rule that you're only allowed to request something once every 12 months ?

Nothing else was wrong--they just said - to paraphrase -you gamed the system -- like i originally said--- if you think it is worth it to get an "extra" few miles etc with chase - go do it -just weigh what you may get VS. being kicked out from the nbr 1 bank for c.c.

i am only sharing info that can lead to a big problem - plus chase is not the same chase they were  I have lasted a very long time in the game by being somewhat conservative , on dans many were what i call "180 wonders " ( racking up all kinds of points and then they get "caught" an it is all over

ABOUT A MONTH- WAITED FOR "EACH" TO POST ,like i said i got away with it only because of my 40 years and accounts i maintain at chase--they called me to tell me going to close down - but saw how long i was with chase and told me - one more violation and we close

not worth the risk as far as i am concerned

have relative who did as i- but much younger- closed him down

one retention per card and ur safe -above one - risking it for "crumbs"

Where is there a rule that you can only get one retention bonus? They offered it to me when I asked to close my card.

The $60 offer is usually the explorer card.
Do I need to speak with retention or regular c/s is fine?

YMMV Try it with regular c/s, if it's a no go, ask to be transferred to retention.

Has anyone had an issue with a retention call backfiring?  I opened both AMEX plats (reg and MB) a month ago, hit my spend on MB, got GE fee reimbursed and PGGM'd, and now want to cancel to avoid AF.

Any chance retention call re MB will trigger some issue, or is it worth it before canceling?

They shouldn't give you an issue for wanting to close.

They shouldn't give you an issue for wanting to close.

But I should still call retention line first and say that I'd like to close (i.e. that will trigger a potential retention offer)?  Or just forget retention and use online chat to close?

Any thoughts on which card between the CSP and the Ink Plus I should keep open. I need to keep one of them open and pay the fee since I can't get new cards and need them for the points transfer option. I'd rather not pay the fee on both unless there's a really good reason to.

Not that it matters but both are in my wife's name. I closed my CSP and Ink Plus a few months ago. Have applied for the CSP since then but was denied for opening too many cards. They gave me some nonsense about not being able to establish an accurate debt to credit ratio.

CSP and downgrade ink plus to ink cash, unless you need the extra 25k at staples.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

What makes you so sure that the next time you call back the better offer will still be available
Called again and got same offer accepted it this time. The csr mentioned that this is the very best card to pay at starwood and that tpg says so too......

I've been rejected 3 times now for Chase Ink Plus after 1 year, pretty heavy spending on non-bonus categories. I've always called the phone number on the back of the card, now I wonder if I will have any success calling the retention department directly. Have you guys noticed a difference and success rate by doing that for Chase Ink?
