Difference between MileagePlus and mileagePlus explorer?

Hi,
I had the MileagePlus card and closed it a month ago bc I did not want to pay the annual fee. I did transfer the credit line before closing it though.
I also have the Continental OnePass card which I got in December and the Chase Sapphire card which I got a few weeks go.
If I apply for the MileagePlus Explorer, is that different to the MileagePlus? Will I be accepted? Bc I do want the miles.
Additionally- how do I deal with my cards once the annual fee is coming up and I don't want to pay it?

How long has it been since you last applied with chase?
You might be able to just apply again

You can for sure apply again but if you use the same FFN they may deny you the bonus miles. What I would do is email them this question before, they should email back that you will receive the miles and then apply. That way, if you have any problems you have in writing they said you would get the bonus.
