I never said you should pay for everything. I would also say I didn't request the newspaper... but if valet costs 40 dollars I would not start complaining that all he had to do was drive the car 1 min into the garage and if I pay 1000 for a room at the st regis why be cheap and charge me for driving my car for a minute

They offer a service to heat up the meals. A service you requested, not a newspaper they dumped in front of the room. They charge for it, either you pay for it or dont use it and bring your own burner but stop being the cheap jew and make a whole stink about it.

Yes hotels charge resort fees. Fair, no... but I don't argue at the reception about it

For me this subject is closed, I said what I had to. you wanna turn me into a sucker that pays for everything without asking, be my guest... I am happy to pay for a service if I need it and leave a kidush hashem

"Make a whole stink about it?"

I said for me it sours the experience and that I think it's tacky at a place charging $750+++ for a room; nowhere did I say I make a stink about it or make a chillul Hashem.

Happens to be 95%+ of the hotels we've stayed have been absolutely happy to heat up food without charging, from Maldives, to Bali, to Singapore, to Auckland, to Queenstown, to Tahiti, to Cape Town, to Cairns, to Palau, to Tokyo, to Seoul, to Beijing.

Again, if you don't have a problem with nickel and diming, woopty doo for you. But don't come here and start accusing anyone who doesn't follow you grand mehalech on all things related to money as being a "cheap jew," Mr. Soros. Especially in the case where I'd bet you're in the very small minority.

Ok guys without trying to make this personal at all, I absolutely understand that it's annoying to feel nickel and dimed while I also think that we all need to be acutely aware that these requests have huge Hillul HaShem ramifications and our behavior surrounding these requests should include the utmost HaKaras HaTov.  As I said earlier,f rom the hotel's revenue perspective there is zero difference from us asking them to heat up and serve our outside food as there is from asking to use their spa facility for no charge for an outside masseuse (and I think we can agree that would be an obnoxious request).

Aside from creating a Hillul HaShem, I am actually curious now after really thinking about this and am going to ask a sheila whether I am even halachically able to ask for them to remove the charge after the fact for reheating and serving the food if they told me the charge ahead and did provide the service that they said they would.  Assuming it's allowed within halacha  and I could find a way to nicely ask without a Hillul HaShem, I'm like the guy who would rather use the money for a ton of sushi instead of the reheating fees but if it's ganeiva for me to get a refund for a service I requested and received, I also don't want to lose my Bracha from HaShem AND that money on some other business deal.  I'll let you know what answer I get.

I really appreciate all the help I get on DDF and I hope I didn't offend pretty much all of you, from every side of this, at this point!! 😜

Happy you got to mention all your destinations again :-)

I was talking about reply 2079 and 2076, were guys clearly stated, that they will bargain or ask them by check out to be removed. I think thats wrong.
Some hotels have free parking, I dont complain to others that charge that hotel x didnt... thats being cheap.
I think the hotels are going out of their way with a special request, that makes them loose revenue. They want to charge for it (i dont think its necessary) go ahead and charge me. I will still say thanks, as they are doing me a favour.

I know you will have answers for me and push me under the bus, thats what laywers are trained to do, when people have different opinions them them....

Over and out Mr soros

Emailed PH Maldives to see if they'd order me Kosher breakfast on their own dime now that I'm Diamond. Here was the response:

Dear CS91,

Warm Greetings from Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa!

We have received your query on Kosher Breakfast.

Kindly be informed, Islam is the official religion of the Maldives and open practice of any other religion is forbidden and liable to prosecution.

By law in maldives we cannot have or make Kosher food as practice.

We can procure the kosher breakfast from our vendor in Melbourne and we will not be adding any supplement on the actual cost.
We have asked our culinary team to get the kosher breakfast options and will share the cost for (Freight Charges from Australia, Custom Clearance in Male , Transportation cost from Male to Hadahaa, Applicable taxes)
I remain at your disposal for any further assistance.

That bolded line is pretty intense.

Well I didn't exactly phrase it that way lol. I said that I know Diamonds get free breakfast and I was wondering if they have access to Kosher food. I thought it was at least a bit subtle, no?

Only thread I can think of that would qualify is the airline compensation thread. Sometimes that thread makes me want to quit DDF forever.

Not sure why you guys think what I did was so terrible. I sent them a very respectful email asking them if they have access to Kosher food like other Hyatts do. They said that I'd have to pay for it and I already sent them back a thankful email them telling them that I appreciate them getting back to me but that I'll take a pass.

Everyone here is in agreement that there are things much worse than what you did -- just saying it took nerve to ask in this case, considering there are no non-stop (commercial) flights between AU and MLE and would likely have to go via SIN/KUL or UAE... so it's quite the ask...

Ah, got it. Didn't know that there was nothing direct and from when I originally asked them about ordering from AU through them (was trying to decide between that and bringing POM), they made it sound like they do it all the time and that it's pretty routine so figured I'd ask.

I'm not too worried because the hotels are so far from Male (at least this one is) and people here have gone there with no issues at all. But I'll admit, I found that line of the email to be a bit over the top.

From everything I've seen here, the W MLE is so much more accommodating and friendly than the PH. Plus every villa has a pool there.
It's not an awful value with the SPG35% on a 5 night stay.

Seems to be the only international PH in the world I don't have much of a desire to check out.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

+1 million
Makes me feel pretty dumb that i re-qualified again this year (as i do every year).

I have been there. You do have to go through Male and based on the schedule of the commuter flights that the PH books you on, you may find yourself in Male for hours.
When we were there, there was no other option other than us having to get back to MLE several hours before our departure. The PH paid for a free tour of MLE (which i was a nit queasy about then and in the end was fine...i certainly would not be comfortable doing nowadays)
