Credit Cards for Bochurim!

We all know how amazing this site is for all different sort of uses (Thanks Dan!). However, as a 19 year old Bochur, many of these offers (seem like) they can't really help me out too much. Most Bochurim either can't get approved for any of these big cards, or even if they can, won't be able to spend the necessary money to receive the whopping bonuses. Does that mean we just have to sit around until we can spend enough for these bonuses? Any useful ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! of course there are many things bochurim could do with credit cards. First you could open a gap, Sears,or banana republic card and spend one dollar a month for 6 months and that should build your credit. Or becoming being added to sometimes credit card who has good credit... As for your other question I would suggest searching the forums for an answer there is a wealth of information here all you got to do is look.

The easiest way for someone young to establish credit is to have their parents add them onto their CC’s (assuming they have excellent credit).

Not necessarily will that help with every bank.

If they are a joint user then it will help. But I think a store CC like target, gap ect. is a faster and more effective way

I know with myself I'm still 19 and was added as a au earlier this year and I have 2 citi cards 1 capital one and in the last week got approved for the chase freedom, amex platinum Mercedes Benz (which has a small threshold) and SPG.
so which back does AU not work with?

Not necessarily were you approved because you were added as a AU.

I have added my wife on 3 diff bank CC and she didnt get approved for her own CC until she got a Target CC

Very surprised with that. citi told me you have to be an Au on 2 cards for 2 years in order to get approved, so either the rep lied to me, or your an exception.

If you are being added as an AU to cards that are only 1-2 years old of course it will not help that much. I am talking about adding AU’s on parents cards that are 10, 20 or 30 years old. This works for all the major CC companies.

+1. When I added one of my kids to a Sears Citi card (+25 years) it did not ask for SS# and for some reason it did not show on the CR report. I called Citi about it and they got it to report. I don't think I provided a SS# during the call. This happened a few years back.

Do you gain their credit history? that's what would make the difference between being added on a 1-2 year old account to a 20-25 year old.
i know on my amex it says member since 83 and im only 20 years old

Only Amex (of the major CC's) back dates and it is getting harder with them for AU's. Open more Amex cards. They all will have a date of "83".

You want to be added as a joint account holder to a card that is 3 months old? Either way I don't know since I never go the joint route.

I would love to I just have bad experience with Au ( or maybe it's just citi?)
