I imported on a student visa and they told me the same thing. So I just made sure, that my car got 'stolen' and filled out a police report, took that to meches and they accepted it and all was done. the car was still standing there for 2 years and then it really got stolen :-)

IME they collect tax on stolen/destroyed cars, you're expected to have it insured for the full value INCLUDING meches and then go claim the $$ from insurance , they told me that straight regarding my car and a friends car tht was bought in israel on a student visa, that went up in flames and they collected the meches/arvut from him!!

HAVING BEEN THERE DONE THAT, there are NO clear cut rules, they change laws more often then seasons change, and of course based on their mood!!!
latest i was told tht as of Jan '13 NO cars more then 4 years old are allowed to come in and the ones tht are here must be taken out

They also told me at first, that i have to pay insurance money. I told them, it want insured and they said to bad on me...
I told them this cant be, they should show me that in writing, that i have to pay for a stolen car. She took out a book, the size of a truck and found it. But it also said, that if the car is not insured, then i dont have to pay, but lost my right to import again, unless i pay the old car from my pocket

That stupid meches agent even wrote a whole text in my passport, saying what happened. Only a israeli has the chuzpe to write in a passport, as if its a notepad

After six months they make you put on an israeli plate.(or you can chose to take the car out of the country for 3 months, IIRC)

Same here, didnt actually put the $$ in they gave the line of credit but you still pay some sort of interest on the line of credit....

Is this confirmed? I also just heard something like that and someone with a car older than four years won't be able to extend it.

Anyone here driving a car they imported from the US and got to keep the US license plate for over a year? (recent)
I need to find a way to keep the US plates and trying to see what my options are
Does taking the car to Jordan work??
it CAN be done!
