I don't want to start a flame war, but well done defrauding the Israeli government, chuchem. Can we guess how many issurim that entails?
Sorry for being on delay, but chuchem happens to be right over here. There is no set law as it keeps changing. As evidenced here by all the comments, even the officials make things up as they go along - for and against you. I know Rabbonim who've gone through the same as chuchem because that's what they expect/advise you to do. Not every שקר isn't אמת.

thanks :-)
I gotta be honest, this thread annoys me. People can do whatever they want, i also do things that are not so straight. But I don't try to get a psak to justify it to myself or convince myself that i'm actually doing right. Anyone who can say not every שקר isn't אמת may be a master of dialectics, but is forgetting one thing, and i'll give you a hint, it's in דברים ו י"ח

Actually, you're missing my intention. I'm not saying you can weasel around it so it's not שקר. I'm saying what the תורה considers אמת isn't always what we would objectively say is so. Lying for שלום בית is מותר not because there's a temporary pass on שקר, but because as far as G-d is concerned the אמת in that situation is to preserve שלום בית.

I don't disagree with you, but i don't see the benefit on the other side of the scale in this case...i think you're missing the point, it's not that lying in the service of shalom bayit is not lying, and therefore אמת, rather, that there are 2 principles on the scales here, אמת and שלום, and the halakhic decision is that in this case (as in many others), שלום takes it. There are, of course, cases in which the opposite is true - for example, the חפץ חיים's descriptions of when it is not only permissible but sometimes obligatory to engage what in other cases would be considered lashon hara, because there אמת is considered the more important principle...

or, let me put is differently: when you lie to preserve שלום בית, you're still lying. It's מותר, but its still a lie.

Usually more worthwhile to buy the car in Israel with the studetn visa which gives you aprox 50% off and much less hassle and regulations.

And then when i am done with the car and i sell it the new buyer needs to pay the taxes ? Do i need to put the money upfront for the taxes just like shipping the car in ?

Reopening a old topic. I'm slowly getting into the situation that I will probably be buying a car. Would love a minivan. I'm fully Israeli no Aliyah benefits any more. Is importing a car from the states a way to save money? I understand there are costs involved, but it might be worth it . This is not with a student visa.

There are dedicated services that can walk you thru it.
Seems advisable in order to handle the bureaucracy.
