booking award ticket in someone else's name

Do all airlines allow one to book award travel for someone else using your mileage account?
For example, can i book someone else an award ticket using my AA account?
If not all airlines allow this, which ones do not allow?

As far as I know they all allow it, the only thing is that they want you to be related (or good friend) to the passenger.

saying the passenger is a father/mother/brother/sister in law (or step family) should do the trick.

By ANA apparently you need to register the relatives, but I'm not sure how that works.

I was able to successfully do this last month for a trip to Vegas on CO.  In fact, the CO rep at the Silver phone number recommended I do it.  I booked his ticket using my OnePass account and miles.  I then booked a ticket on the same flight in my name so that when I flew I would get the frequent flyer miles.  Bonus, since I was not flying on a reward ticket, I was eligible for (and ended up getting) an EUA to First Class each way of the trip.

Im a little confused at to what you did. Why didnt you redeem mile for yourself and buy your friend the ticket?

 In most cases a person wont earn any miles when flying on  a free ticket, so by doing as they did not only did they earn miles for their trip but ended up being upgraded which seems to mean they have some sort of status with that airline, so they earned miles towards getting that status again for next yr as well as some bonus miles good towards for travel

 a very nice job, ive been in the same shoes but I was the person who had to use the free tkt, still better then having to pay for a tkt
