Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

I have found that many of them are compatible with 120-240. Did you check if they are?
Even if internally they can take European voltage, you need a simple cord adapter so it will fit in their plug.  But just the plug adapter won't work if it's not set up internally for their voltage.

I'm a new member.  I've been a long-time active member of another credit-related board, so I'm curious what the house rules (outside of TOS) I should observe are (here).  I'm relatively respectful, don't start new threads when old ones will suffice, and I'm generally supportive.  Thanks.  :)

I tried to have my own Topic at the "Trade"-Section - but I can't create one...why is that?

Assuming no other differences, what do you think is a better (will last longer) car?

2005 Lacrosse with 112k miles.
2008 Lacrosse with 190k miles.

Mostly highway, mechanic says both run well.

Obviously the 112k will last longer. What's the question?

Thank you.
I dont know much about cars, and was wondering if the life of the car will also contribute to its eventual demise.

The car is also three years older. At some point things go bad because of old age not because or wear and tear.

True, but there is no way 190k will outlive 112k. A good mileage per year ratio should be between 12-15k. 78k for a 3 year difference, no question take the lower mileage

Maybe you should ask how many miles he plans on driving each year and how many more years does he expect to get out of it.

Once I post in a thread, that thread will always pop up in "Show new replies...", unless I "Ignore" the thread. But if I do that, then when I post in that thread a year later, I don't see the replies, because it's in "Ignorance mode". So of course I can "Unignore" it. But is there a simpler way to set this up, i.e. to stop seeing replies until I post again in that thread? Thanks.

Maybe suggest/request it here.

ETA: Then you'll have, of course, the guys saying "if you code it, it will come"...
