Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Where do you read your report?
By a company that provides reports from all 3 CRA's or the original report by the CRA?

This is from checking Citi Identity Monitor.

Q- Why are some cards only reported to certain bureaus and others reported to all the bureaus? Even ones issues all from the same bank. (Amex for ex..)
Not sure why but it does happen.

So if you see (for ex.) EX has 3 and EQ has 3, but they're not in the same line, it doesn't mean you have 6 accounts, its just that the system didn't match the 3 of EX to the 3 of EQ due to account number mix up.
Same goes for if 2 EX accounts are on the same line as 2  EQ accounts, but 1 EX and 1 EQ are separate, it doesn't mean you have 4 accounts, its just that the system only matched 2 accounts and not the third, resulting in the third to be shown in separate lines per CRA.
I hope I'm clear enough.

Has anyone (after not being automatically approved) ever called up the application status number and heard on the automatic machine that they were approved?

Even when the cards do get approved it always just tells me the decision hasn't been made yet.

Are you referring to Chase? It could take a few days for the phone system to be updated.

Decided to go ahead and try applying anyways-got a 7-10 day message...  Just went back to review my credit report... I'm thinking now it was a dumb move on my part to even bother applying from my account and should have used a SSN that had less pulls.  I have 5 pulls from Chase since May 2011 from the bureau US Bank pulls from.    I didn't think that was too many but maybe US Bank will feel otherwise.

Oh well. We shall see what happens.

Approved. The last night free will IY"H come in handy this summer.

Does anyone know how US Bank is when it comes to using Amazon Payments or buying Vanilla reloads etc?

Amex approved me for the delta 45k with a 2k limit.

My question is regarding spending limits. Does it mean that I shouldn't spend more a month even if I pay in the middle of the month for say, the first 1k?

Of course, I'mrreally asking if I can safely charge more than 1k andpay and then more . Have to hit 5k in 6 months.

i have never closed a chase card yet and my year is coming to a close.
i have the SP and im wondering:

1. do i have to move out the points to an airline or somewhere else if i have the freedom card linked to the same account?

2. when does the 7% bonus kick in?

3. obviously ill try for a retention bonus, but should i downgrade to regular sapphire for more leverage when i apply for new card?

1. Just transfer them to freedom. You can leave them as UR there

2. Everyone is diff but mine kicked in the 12th month (i signed up last feb so this feb i got my 7%) but sm them.

3. Its a bit of a machlokes. Some say downgrade and sign up for a new one, this way they won't hack you why u need 2 sp's. but some say just use it as leverage.

You can make payments in the middle of the month and in order to spend more than your CL.
