Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Check out the app-o-rama thread and you should be able to get some good ideas.

It depends what you are looking to get.

Do you want to fly, or stay in hotels, or sell the points etc.

Also you have 0 CC's?

To sell you'll want UR so I'd suggest the 2 ink cards which have 60K bonus right now, and a sapphire preffered card. Then I'd also do the United card. You can choose a 3rs card for the chase personal, but that's your call.

Amex I guess do starwood and gold or platinum or both. Just look for the highest sign up offer.

This also depends how much you are able to spend to meet sign up bonuses.

They will only allow you to buy a certain amount in the store, and how will you pay the CC bill?

*face palm* I meant 3rd card.

Like I said checkout this thread to get an idea of what and how may cards you should apply for at once.

If you want to go all out I'd suggest 3 Chase personal, 3 Chase business, 3 Amex personal, 3 Amex business, 3 Barclay cards, 3 Bofa cards (if there are that many with sign up miles offers nowadays), and a couple Citi cards.

Hey,

My mom heard from her friends how valuable and rewarding it is to have certain credit cards because of the miles and other benefits.
And of course it landed on her son to figure it out.

For my mom: shes looking for a regular credit card (non business) with good benefits, and has 1. low annual fee for the card and 2. no credit charge when the monthly payment is paid in full.

For myself: I'm a student, and currently i have a debit card which means i dont have a established credit yet.
I was wondering which card would be good to establish credit and still get rewards.

TIA

What is it that you would like to start a topic about?
Maybe we can direct you to an already existing thread.

I can find topics that's not the problem, just asking why I don't see the option new topic, if you go to help and check how to post it says that at the top of each page there is the option to start NEW TOPIC and I don't see that option.

for your mom IMO I would say to try the SPG or the freedom among many other great cards. For more info on what cards are good for what, check out the threads stickied on the top of the credit card section.
For you look at the wiki at the top of  this thread.
