Topic Wiki

This is the thread where you can ask any random question you have. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions that you otherwise might be embarrassed to ask. This is the thread for beginners, so veterans here will treat you nicely. Ask a beginner's Q in some other threads and no guarantee of that same treatment. ;)
People here want to help, so just have some patience, follow the tips below and hopefully someone will help you when they have a chance.

If you looking for a particular thread you once saw and can't find it, this is not the place to ask. Check out Help Me Find It and ask there.

How to ask a question in this thread:
Click the blue reply button at the top or bottom of the page, type your question, and click post!

Some helpful tips for eliciting answers from other members:
- Keep your question short and precise. No one wants to read a megillah.
- The more questions you ask in one post, the less likely any will be answered. People are willing to answer a question or two, but if you ask all the questions that apply to your particular issue, you're expecting to be spoonfed. Members don't like holding out the spoon, so ask accordingly.

Still doesn't hurt to keep it open, you can also use it as leverage to get approved for new cards.

Is there a minimum to use a card just to keep it open?
Like do you have a card that you use once every 6-12 months just so it should be kept open or you need to use it more often so it shouldn't get shut for lack of use?

The first card I opened I still have even though I haven't used it in 3-4 years.

I think the oldest card I have is from Cap1 - good to know I don't need to use it that often.

There's a thread in the CC board with all the info on when certain banks close accounts after a certain period of time of the card not being used.
And it'll show on your report as closed by lender - which is not good.

Could you point me in that direction?

As of last year the PHL to TLV US did not.  But things couldve changed and the route can also be different.
It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

Ok, so I'm currently enrolled in Equifax's Score Watch program and at the top of my dashboard it provides me with my Fico score and it gives me alerts for when my score or credit report changes. As you can see in the screenshot, it says it's my FICO score, but is it actually my real score?

Yes.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Hi,

I am a beginner on the forum and I found a page with all these links to threads from different categories. Like meeting thresholds, and also a bunch of links to blog archives to dansdeals. I can't find that page after looking for an hour around. Does anybody know where it is? So i can bookmark it and use it for future reference? Shkoiach.

Hi folks,

I'm trying for the longest not to ask this n00b question, I did lots of searching but I'm still quite confused so I would really appreciate if anybody can explain this to me.

#1
What exactly is Star alliance?
For example, on Chase's site I have the option to transfer my UR to United, so where would Star alliance come into the picture?

#2
What is Aeroplan, where/when/how would I use it?

It's probably the most simplest thing but I just can't get it, a simple explanation would real do it.

Thanks!

1) It is the the alliance that United is partners with - http://www.staralliance.com/. When transferring miles to United you can then book a flight on a partner airline that is also within Star Alliance (Assuming United allows booking on those flights/airlines, and the flight is available).

2) From a quick search - Aeroplan is Air Canada's mileage program - same idea as number 1 ^^ but with different options and fees. (Not the best answer - I know).

Hope that helps.
