best for what,? cr gives the infinity m35, Audi a6, BMW 5 series, and the Acura RL the best ratings for sedans in your price range . in the Ultra performance/luxury sports cars section the audi s4 is rated very highly- definitely my choice in this price range

if you are leasing the car I would go with the STS but if you are buying the caddys dont have such a good resale value

Avis always offers me the choice between the Caddy CTS, DTS, and the STS.

Anyone here have a preference?

I like the STS the best, I find that pressing a button to turn on the engine is very conveient although some of the CTS's have that option, I find the CTS to be a bit to small, as far as the DTS its like driving a boat.

The STS and CTS have similar drives, but the the STS is slightly larger and more powerful. The DTS is completely different and just large and cumbersome. That being said, if you need to drive a long distance and don't care about paying for gas, the DTS is probably the most smooth and comfortable.

I have rented the STS and DTS and found the STS had more creature comforts.

What's the best car in the 50k range?

You cannot go wrong with an M35, I love that car. Theres also the question of what "image" youre looking for. The M35 is no S4 or BMW, but as an all around car I think its #1.

50k already gets you an M45.

Fuel economy wont be pleasant though with "M" anything.

There are ALOT of options in that price range, specify what you are looking for. (S4 and S5 included). Actually the S5 sounds pretty sweet if you can get one at actual MSRP.

So lets see, we have so far:

(Mainstream cars).

M35-M45
Audi S4/S5
BMW 535i (Definitely a solid car).
Loaded STS
Loaded Lexus GS
Loaded Audi A4 Convertible

Those are a blend of luxury and performance.

If you want flat out performance, id suggest a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO MR. (39k MSRP).

Possibly a Ford GT500 although those are rare and and not very "every-day" worthy IMO.

Of course you have your infamous Charger SRT8, although im assuming you want something a little higher up.

Lots of choices...
