DDF DO Planning Thread

Seven Mile Market - supposedly the largest kosher supermarket in the country.

Hotels:
Only 1 Close and decent hotel to Jewish area (but not quite walking distance) is this Hilton Doubletree

Otherwise, there are a number of nice hotels downtown (which is also the inner harbor area) and near BWI airport. There are no shuls in the downtown area with regular minyanim, aside from Mincha minyanim in various offices.

Restaurants in the Jewish area (in no particular order):

Dairy

Dunkin Donuts - 2 kosher locations
Here and Here

Milk & Honey Bistro - dairy homestyle cooking

Goldberg's Bagels - very good bagels and free wifi. Pikesville location is the one in the Jewish area

Mama Leah's - pizza that is a bit different, but IMHO, the best pizza in Baltimore

Tov Pizza - classic pizza shop - Mocha thinks this is a hell of a lot better than ^

Caramel's - pizza shop, also has sushi

Eden Cafe - located inside the JCC, no membership is needed. Also has pizza

Cocoaccinos - cafe with sandwiches and salads

Downtown
Van Gough Cafe - small cafe that serves sandwiches

Me Latte - small kosher cafe located in Johns Hopkins

Meat

David Chu's - Reasonably priced great Chinese food and good sushi. Dan's rating - 7.25/10
Address: 7105 Reisterstown Road, Baltimore, MD 21215
Phone:(410) 602-5008
Not to be missed:
  • Curry Chicken

Dougie's -  located in the lobby of a mostly frum office building.

Knish Shop - Excellent subs and good sushi - Good place to pickup food for shabbos
Address: 508 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD 21208
Phone:(410) 484-5850

Kosher Bite - fast food (American, Israeli, and Chinese)
Not to be missed:
  • Double Burger (better than KD's a"h)

Umami Bistro - Japanese and Chinese food, including sushi. More upscale and a bit more expensive than David Chu's. Also has a liqueur license. Dan's rating - 7.25/10 Closed

Red Goji (Formerly Umami Bistro) - Japanese and Chinese food, including sushi. More upscale and a bit more expensive than David Chu's. Also has a liqueur license. Dan's (Umami) rating - 7.25/10

Serengeti - Traditional excellent steakhouse (review Here and Here) - definitely the nicest place in Baltimore.
Address: 2839 Smith Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209
Phone:(410) 413-6080
Not to be missed:
  • Lamb Burger on Ciabatta Bun
  • Short rib eggrolls

Accent's - reasonably priced burgers, sandwiches and salads
Address: Greenspring Shopping Center, 2839 Smith Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209
Phone:(410) 602-2224
Not to be missed:
  • English Pub Burger

Candy
The Candy Store (Star-K)

7002 Reisterstown Rd, Baltimore, MD 21215

Pikesville, MD 21208

Phone - 410-DOUGIES
Nice. Too bad they didn't have it when I was in yeshiva there.
We were stuck with mainly kosher bite- which I can't say is amazing but pretty cheap. (I'm still getting their emails, theres no unsubscribe button!)
And David chu's is great I hear but im not a Chinese food fan
And I think tov pizza is better then mama Leah
And subway is really good!

Any good?

Are the restaurants in DC/Silver Spring better than B'more?  I can base myself in DC at the Fairmont in a suite for free, but in B'more it would be $80/night out of pocket, but I figured closer to more/better restaurants.

IIRC it was similar to chinese food style for more money. I'd stick with David's Chus.
Nicer venue though

Dunno, I've never been there.

There are a few places in Silver Spring (one closed down) but there are definitely much more options in Baltimore.

Sometime in the past 3 weeks. Evidently the owner wasn't frum (or maybe wasn't jewish?) and decided to just become a regular Subway - pork, cheese and all.

1. the owner of Subway was Frum.  It wasn't doing well so he sold it.

2. Umami is very good.  It is a glorified chinese restaurant.  Much nicer venue, bar, and imho, the food is much better.  Yes it is a little more expensive.

3. Accents is decent, but the service is veeerrrryyy slow.  It is basically a glorified take out.  If you want an amazing sub or sushi, the Knish Shop is your best bet.  Not a lot of place to sit but the food is amazing!

4.  Silver spring does not have many places.  There used to be a place nearby called Pomegranate but they closed down.

i had a great service at accents, and IMHO the subs are better then the Knish shop. (guess it depends on your taste)
