Which affordable tablet to buy?
« on: June 15, 2012, 12:14:41 PM »
I am looking for a tablet just for web browsing and playing online videos/flash.  I don't need any apps or cameras or anything else.  Any recommendations?

Thanks

Kindle Fire for $200.

They sell them refurbished for $170 (with a 1 year warranty) and once in a rare while it goes down to $140 refurbished for a day.

It's basically a regular android tablet (once rooted) and can handle most android apps except that it doesn't have microphone/bluetooth/GPS/camera.
Unrooted it has a limited selection of apps, but is still great for Web browsing and watching flash videos online.

Does the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ever dip below $249?

Rooting it just gives me access to more apps?  Does it improve quality or speed and can it get back to the original operating system?

Thanks

Unrooted you only have access to the Amazon app store.  Rooted you have access to android app store (play)

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (8gb) is selling for $249... is it worth the extra $49 to get that instead of the Fire (and root it)?

If "all you need" is to do web browsing and play videos why would you spend more money, when the kindle fire works perfect for what you need?

To buy it rooted you will be buying it used and wasting your money but if you're looking for instructions on how to root it check xda developers although you can look on craigslist for someone who will root it for you

You are right.  I just wasn't sure if the Galaxy 2 is better and worth the extra 49 bucks.

It sounds like the new Nexus 7 tablet is a Kindle Fire Killer

Advantages over Kindle Fire:
Thinner, lighter, Jelly Bean, Quad core processor, microphone, camera, 1GB Ram

IMO the kindle fire screen is a bit small for watching.  And rooting it u risk bricking it.   Ifor under $300 u could get ureself a 32gb HP touchpad, load it up with ics and its rockin (of curse some ppl do get a bit glitchy with ics on the tp so its not a sure thing, but u could always reload it. Almost impossible to brick. I've been thrilled with it)
