Speedpass 10¢ per gallon rebate
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:06:32 AM »
I got this in an e-mail from Speedpass today:

Quote
Just link your Speedpass™ device to a MasterCard card before June 30, 2012, and you’ll earn a 10¢ per gallon rebate on fuel purchases.

This is for up to 100 gallons purchased from June 1, 2012 to August 31, 2012. Up to two transactions per day.

Before I saw this offer, I was going to buy all gas on a Chase Freedom Visa during July through September for 5% UR points. I would like to take advantage of this Speedpass offer, but to maximize my savings, I want to use a MasterCard that will give the best bonus when buying gas. Is the Chase Freedom card available as a MasterCard? If not, is there any other MasterCard you can suggest that has a great bonus for gas purchases, at least until the end of August?

Any tips on how to get my Chase Freedom Visa converted to MasterCard? When I called Chase, they claimed it was not possible. They also would not give me a straight answer when I asked if there was such a thing as a Freedom MasterCard.

I have the Exxon Mobil Mastercard (already linked to my speedpass)... I'm wondering if I'll get the extra 10 cents off... This card already gives 15 cents off per gallon every day... not a bad deal.  Although its unclear if/how you need to register if you already have a Speedpass.

Freedom 5% is better than $0.10 a gallon.
$3.50/g = 3.5 x 5 = 16.5 + 10% = 18.15 points per gallon + 10 bonus points each fill up.

Are there any Mastercards with 5% back on gas?
If you don't care why would you comment?

Last time offer was not valid in NJ. Also exxon typically has the most expensive gas, even after the rebate it can be cheaper to shop elsewhere.

Looks like current one not restricted to MasterCard. So you can link your freedom card and get your quarterly bonus also. Double dipping?

I just used my pass, and they charged the credit card rate with speed pass. So the 10 cents I saved I paid in a higher amount.

If your Speedpass is linked to a rewards or cash back earning card, it's still usually worth it to pay the higher credit price, especially if your credit card allows you to earn 5% on gas purchases. In any case, this offer is still worthwhile at those stations that don't charge more, or that charge less than 10¢ per gallon more, for credit card purchases.

(Some stations that do charge more when you pay by credit card still charge the cash price when you pay with an Exxon Mobil gift card. However, you can't link an Exxon Mobil gift card to your Speedpass.)
