I called Amex to cancel my SPG card which I opened a year ago and just got hit with the AF. The rep enticed me to stay by offering me 10k points, with no commitments needed, just that I don't cancel the card with her right then on the phone. I immediately accepted the same offer, and had her grant it for my wife's card as well. The points have since hit my account, and I want to go ahead and cancel my card. Can they be pulled back now that they hit SPG? Should I transfer to Marriott just to be certain?

SO and I both got the SPG biz last month. Both of us had new acct #s created though we both already had existing acct #s. I SM'd and had the number associated with my acct updated to my old #, and did the same for SO, but updated his number through Amex to mine so it would all go into the same account. We haven't seen any of his points hit any account and I am getting concerned. Mine have already hit my acct. They are not in my account, not in his original acct (which was merged automatically) and not in the new acct they made him. Anyone else experience this? I am going to chat with Amex tonight, but I realllyyyy don't want to call SPG about this.

They can't be clawed back from your SPG account but this is considered a bad idea and can hurt your future relationship with amex.

They actually can claw back from the account, I had some returns and they literally clawed the points back from my SPG account months after they posted.

Why wouldn't it?
It doesn't count for sign up bonuses

I missed the the 35k signup offer. I see that dan thinks this may be the last such offer, being that theres a possibility that they will close down the card. I never had this card yet and my question is, should I sign up for the card to have it for all the benefits it offers before they stop offering the starwoods card, and this way ill be grandfathered in to the benefits. (on the chance that they shut it down)? Or will they give a warning before they stop the card and ill be able to sign up then?
Thanks

My annual fee is up now and I would like to close the card, will they award the points for charges that didn't print on a statement yet? according to CS they wont. is that true?

My AF just hit, grandfathered in at the $65 rate. Is it worth keeping this card open at all? I find between AMEX MR and Chase UR, I don't use starpoints much at all.

I can't say for certain I'm grandfathered (don't remember getting a letter). But this is my second renewal at $65 (opened Apr 2015).

I think only whats been transferred already is safe. Why not wait till the points are transferred to starwood after statement closes?

Well, if it's 30 than I won't be able to get it refunded by the time the statement closed. Any work around for this? I have 10k SPG's pending.
